Turn 30 - Phoenicia

Where are all the barbs? The camp's been activated for like 3 full turns now...depending on what happens next turn, I might send our warriors forward to poke around and see if we can't snipe the spear.

I switch on to mining, since it's pretty clear that you're about to find the NW. I might let it finish...but I think I won't just yet. I want to see what pantheon I end up with first...if the pasture one's gone, I'll finish mining and hook up the marble, but if we can get it, I'll pasture the sheep instead to leverage it as heavily as possible while speeding CN by two turns through the mining skip.

Turn 31 - Phoenicia

Monument finished, starting now on the builder. Looks like FT is due in 11 after Mysticism boosts to completion next turn. That's not quite fast enough to get the boats policy in place before we finish the builder, but it's close, and will get closer once we're working the marble. To that end, I micro the capital to grow one turn faster (in 4 now) and slow down the worker a bit - we'll grow onto the marble just one turn after the tile comes in, and shouldn't need to dump more than maybe 2 turns into the boat unboosted (or we could just dump the extra production into part of another builder).

On the tech front, Astrology boosts to completion as planned. I go ahead and switch onto writing for the fastest possible CN push. My plan is for the builder to begin life by heading down to Linear A to get its farm and pasture up, by which point we'll know which pantheon we get, then to walk back up to the capital and make a quarry or sheep pasture as appropriate. That's a bit of a walk, but I think it's the best choice - I'd hate to miss out on an extra cpt from the pasture and extra beakers from not researching mining by improving the marble pre-pantheon (and also I'm not sure if the scout would get in our way if we tried to do that first).

Unfortunately, we couldn't quite move both warriors next to the barb and attack this turn due to ZoC, which would have locked it onto its tile and prevented slinger intervention. We do the next-best thing, though, and wait in place for it to approach us.

Turn 30-Vikings

Fairly big turn...a couple of boosts, 6 era points, and a longboat in the ocean. Surprisingly, I am not the first to get a boat out. Era points where for my first galley (2 points) and my unique unit (4 points). My lack of first to a boat is most likely due to the lack of production at my capital. Oh well. My slinger moves and finds the Delicate Arches...

Looks like there may be a decent city down here even though it is completely desert. Might have to make this my 3rd city and go for a holy site right away. Longboat move out of the city and finds a small island off the coast that is part of a different continent, so boost to foreign trade. Mysticism finishes next turn and might be able to meet the city state if my warrior can see them from the grassland tile. If not, will meet next turn.

Mysticism is in, start Early Empire. Found a city state but not the one I was expecting...

They want the boost to Masonry, same as the other city state. Will have that is 3 turns once I get 200Icon_Gold to buy a builder.

Question for you about the "Send Trade Route" quest (which I just got from Vilnius) - do domestic trade routes count for that, or does it require sending a TR /to/ Vilnius? If it's the latter, I might give them the Mysticism envoy right now, as I have no intention of ever doing that and it'd be nice to get FT quickly enough to do boosted boats in the capital right after the builder, but if it's the former of course I won't since FT's just 10 turns away. CivWiki suggests that I'd have to send the TR to Vilnius, but just thought I'd explicitly confirm that before spending my envoy.

You need to send a trade route to Vilnius to get the envoy and you will need a Cothon before you can send trade routes over water. Put the envoy into Vilnius, it will be a while before you can get one to them and early trade routes to city stats are not the best. I only send trade routes to city states to clear quests.

Okay, I drop in the envoy, taking me to 6 cpt. FT in 7 (ignore the lying interface), though I may slow it down by a turn to line up with the pantheon so I can swap out of God King. The capital will probably put a few hammers into an extra builder in the meantime to avoid investing any unboosted hammers into boats. In the east, the northern warrior attacks to get closer to the first promotion, while the southern one fortifies due to the possibility of a double attack.

I move my warrior and meet Geneva...

They want me to build a government plaza. Do-able but will take a bit. I decide to place my envoy in them for the boost to science. I also look and I am going to be short on gold next turn for the builder. I ask my partner to float me 2Icon_Gold so I can buy the builder next turn and get the other 2 envoys on T34. If I would have been on the ball, I would have asked last turn to float me  some gold so I could get them next turn.

With the 3rd city state, we find where Political Philosophy is located...

It is only a 3 civic run to it and I am currently working on one of them. I think I might beeline it to get a better government going. We will have to see what the next civic is and if the boost is do-able.

Both barb warriors attacked in the interturn - I manage to kill one and get a good hit in on a slinger that also walked up. The northern warrior's low on health but is in promotion range now, so I might be in position to take a shot at the camp soon. The other barb is 1 SE of the sheep, and might wander off towards my city now, but at less than half health I don't think there's any danger of losing a city unless another barb unit is behind it. Next turn, I'll finish off this slinger with the promoted warrior and promote the other, unless you think it's more urgent to pull back onto the sheep in case we miss anything.

My quest for Geneva is to boost SW - good thing we didn't decide to skip that boost. It'll come in with the first Cothon, which should be plenty fast enough.

Turn 34 - Phoenicia

I was a little worried about the barbs this interturn, but things went pretty well - the slinger attacked the one with a promotion available, and the stray warrior moved towards our units and not towards Linear A. I promoted the now-redlined northern warrior, then killed the slinger. Even if the southern warrior gets double-attacked by the wounded warrior and the spear in the camp, I think we'll still be safe, though it could be tight with bad rolls. That probably won't happen, though, in which case we should be able to spend the next few turns healing and then start working on the camp itself.

We also get the marble tile - since it won't cost us time on the size 4 growth, I go ahead and start working it now. This takes FT down to a 4 turn eta, which lines it up nicely with the builder's completion, hmm. I'm still hoping to delay FT to swap out of God King, but maybe the counterargument of getting double boat production sooner is worth considering. I think it'll depend on how quickly we can get the barb camp under control, since swapping into the boat policy means swapping out of Discipline.

Also worth noting: I think I forgot to mention this last turn, but Archduke has a third settler out already, wow. They must have gone warrior-settler-settler or something like that without even waiting for EE.
