Vast swaths of plains and desert.
Mapmaking nightmare though.
uh... no. I for one would not play anything like that at all.
I know it's not really in style anymore but I still like the decently-sized maps with lots of food the best. Having to struggle over borders or inadequate food by the fourth or fifth city is just obnoxious.
I wouldn't even mind a smaller map as long as every player had access to approx. the same amount of equally lush land like in 53. But maps like 56 or 54 or 49 where people are so cramped that ancient-era wars are inevitable I just wont play anymore.

I didn't explain that well. Not a highlands map full of hills and plains cows.
Imagine a map full of rich medium islands (10-20 land tiles), all separated by 4-6 tiles of water.
Then replace all the water with deserts...
Cities would still be rich, they'd just be spread out. If you go for villages, you don't even have coast tiles to work, just sand.
I'm not sure it's even workable, just trying it on.

going to play this one ?
I am playing some games on other site. What I like there is we we play anonymus. Well after some games people figure out that they need to play against me, but for a while was nice.
But I do want to join this one, but if the map is too small i will pas as iwant to play civ not some strcraft variant of civ4.
Is there a site where one can lurk?
You can sign up, cast your votes in the spreadsheet including red lines, and if in the end the settings are intolerable for you bowing out is accepted.
Btw I think PB56 is a case where tiles/player is pretty deceptive. From what I've seen the map is just very compact. Some lakes or snaky coasts could make it a lot more spacey with the same number of tiles. PB54 was a similar case, if less severe (our continent and vanrober's / Ruff's parts of that one where pretty bulky, the 3 player continent less so).

Hey all, I would like to join the big game now that my time has freed up a bit. I'll vote on the settings shortly.

Do we have a goal number of players? Related to that question are we going to post over at civforum to see if anyone is interested? Also, do we have a sign up cut off so we can get a mapmaker started on this beast. Also, we need to shake down a mapmaker.....

Someone go wake up the twins, and see if they will make a map..
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

I posted on civforum, and Flunky posted, but thus far they are spooked by the 24h timer. Maybe if they formed teams?
I guess we could limit it at 26 players, to have everybody choose from 2 leaders in the random pool (wait, CtH should have 55 leaders actually, so 27?).
I don't know if we get that far, but no need to hurry and close signups yet imo. It's been a few days, and there are still 5 weeks to go for the intended launch.
But yes, if somebody is willing to step up as a mapmaker that would of course be immensely welcomed. Moreso as most of the usual suspects have signed up as players...

This reference is lost on me.
Could also beg Darrel to make one.
I mean are we doing duplicate civs allowed by whatever process we end up at? If so doesn't really matter total # of people. 26 seems like a good number though /shrug.
