[SPOILERS] Roland and Suboptimal Team Up

A chop's value for you will depend on the number of techs you complete between now and then. After you complete Masonry a forest chop will be worth 38Icon_Production. If you complete a second tech it'll go up to 39Icon_Production. Manage to get a third tech and it'll be 41. Your civics aren't driving your costs so they don't matter.

If you're investigating the spreadsheet I posted the Calculators tab can help you with that. Under the "CPGP Costs" (which should be CPGC for Cost Progress Game Complete, but I digress) you can enter the number of techs & civics complete (or estimated to be complete). All of the numbers below that (highlighted in yellow, IIRC) will update to their values or costs for the entered numbers. I've generally found these calculations to be correct for GS games. The pillaging categories are wrong but the numbers are correct (categories should be science/culture pillage, the middle two condensed into non-gold pillage and the last one is commerce/gold pillage).

Turn 49.

I won't have time to build a district anyway.

The horse archer barely scratches me but I destroy him in reply. Not sure if the scout suicided on my last turn but think so.

State workforce is in revealing military tactics. I go straight for Defensive tactics. then onto political philosophy. after that will go for theology.

Promote pingala to culture as I need that to get to PP. established in 2.

Micro AM to finish settler in 3 and grow same turn.

also curious as to what is under that tie 2 south of the cap. The tile picker should never have picked that up.

If there are no resources in the second ring the tile picker will prioritize tiles that are adjacent to unclaimed third ring luxury and strategic resources. Given the diamonds in the third ring it took the plains as that's the highest priority tile. To the best of my knowledge and experience the picker does NOT act on resources you haven't discovered. I've seen the picker set on a tile only to change its mind when a new strategic was unlocked. You'll likely see it start to flip-flop between the tile highlighted above and the tile you've pinned your Campus on as they have identical yields.

Turn 49

Rare weekday morning turn for me. Called out of work today because there’s a Nor’easter in town. Got a foot of snow on the ground, expecting up to 24” with rates up to an inch an hour.

Holy Site is complete. State Workforce is not. I appear to be less than 1Icon_Culture from completing it. That’s fine. Al grows in two turns. I buy the tile for the Campus (thanks, Roland!) and will put two turns into the shrine. I also rejigger the populace to get some Icon_Production back, moving the citizen from the fish to the deer. Next turn the wheat worker will move back to the truffles and the turn after that I’ll be back to working the PFH. Faith income is up to 24.2 per turn.

Up at Obvious Child the builder pastures the horses. Turns out that’s the bottleneck tech:

Process of elimination means that the tech after Irrigation is Iron Working and that Engineering, Shipbuilding and Celestial Navigation are the prerequisites for Horseback Riding. crazyeye

Down south the galley moves north. Appears to be a small island, nothing here so far.

Will head east next. At Brussels my galley continues east/southeast.

Nothing new here, either. The island south of China looks interesting, though:

Open inland plains next to horses, a mountain with a +3 adjacency for Campus or Holy Site (for me, anyways), some 3Icon_Food grassland jungles (previously noted). Going to go down to the corner then turn west.

Marcopolo’s Icon_Science doubled since last turn. Looks like he got a Campus up. Archduke and Ljubljana got their seventh tech. Looking at the era scores I’d say that our team and Woden/Ljubljana have a good chance at golden ages for everyone. CMF/Marcopolo and Kasier seem to be too far away to get enough era score in 10 turns; we’ll have to keep an eye on that. Archduke’s era score is low despite his on-pace development. I think he’s taking advantage of the map and trying the dark → heroic slingshot like CMF did the last time there was a water map. Can’t hurt him, particularly as Victoria/England. We’re best positioned for a Monumentality run as we’re the only ones besides CMF that’s pulling in more than a couple Icon_Faith per turn that we know of (Kaiser likely has Icon_Faith, Archduke likely does not).

I’ve changed my mind about the galley purchase. With Monumentality pretty much secured I need a unit to escort settlers over the open seas. I’m going to buy the galley at Al, send it south to defog the east coast of Chocolate Island and then head over to Big Island to defog a bit more of that. I’ve marked three potential city locations. Chocolate Island is inland and has low visibility from the sea (good). Big Island is a reasonably defensive location but I’ve marked another location in the fog – if that tile is clear that’s the spot to settle as there is no line of sight from the ocean. Everything around it is Breathtaking except for the sheep so that seems like a reasonable spot. I’m going to try to get at least two scouts out while I work on Shipbuilding so I can scout ahead of the settlers.

What are your plans culture and tech wise?

Techs: Mining (done next turn) -> Wheel -> Bronze Working -> Shipbuilding
Civics: State Workforce (done next turn) -> Foreign Trade -> Theology -> Def Tactics -> PP

I'm thinking to get Theology first because the ability to build temples will boost my culture enough to make the run at PP go relatively fast.

Al is building Shine -> Campus -> Shrine -> Scout -> Scout -> Temple
OC is building Campus -> Scout -> Library
Diamonds is building Holy Site -> Shrine -> Scout -> Temple

The second scout at Al and the one at Diamonds are space fillers while I work on Theology. If that comes in first I may build temples before scouts. That'll depend on the game state once Theology is complete.
