Since this is relevant to the turn-pace discussion; how do war splits work for 2v1 wars? Should the player that plays last in the '2' continue to play last of them?

Should the player that plays last in the '2' continue to play last of them? Strictly speaking yes. For example if 2 war partners were attacking a city together, and then the one usually playing first waits because his buddy has brought the siege then that's scummy. As is going first to snatch a conquest before your "ally" can get it when you usually played second. Now if both allies operate in different theatres you could argue that for sake of turnpace you don't have to be as strict, but it's foggy, because doing so gives away spoiler info. So if possible yes, try to maintain a turnsplit with your ally, if reasonably possible. Of course the opinion of the actual players in this game has more weight than mine.
In that case I think it best for me to play after Mjmd; it's a shame they were asleep when Van posted. I've been hoping to play all day, however I need to sleep now so will have to play the turn when I wake up, ~8-9 hours. I know there is some frustration about turnpace in this game (believe me I share it), but I think this is best to avoid any potential rule-breaking. I will need a roughly ~2 hour extension to play when I wake up. Sincere apologies for any extra frustration this causes.
Playing now. I'm actually surprised "not hitting the red button" doesn't happen more often. I'm also surprised accidentally hitting doesn't happen more often.
You like to cut it close. Time added

Would it be best to increase the normal timer by a couple hours?
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."
