[PB58 - spoilers] AT's Order of the Civ

Turn 94

1 turned archery, now 4 turns to IW

I'm now #1 in landarea, probably because I plopped a couple of cities in the middle where there's a lot of land. #1 in crop yield, which is good, because #6 in mfg goods. I get around that with a lot of 2 and 3 pop whips, of course.

I whipped a settler in roy, which will overflow to a spear. I debated where to send it and decided to send it to the 1 tile fish island, so moved it. Now I'm having 2nd thoughts. My other choices are 1 of the two corn spots, which are better and that's where it should go. similar food, but better supporting land and needs less infrastructure.

There will be a settler coming out of Xykon, which will either go SW of Xykon or SE - SW, probably onto the banana if Serdoa hasn't settled the area, SE if he has. I'll have an axe, a spear and a chariot to defend it.

I realized that since I don't have masonry, I can't tell if someone has construction, so after IW, I'll pick up mysticism and masonry. After that, probably calendar and then construction - we'll see.

IW in 4

So, where will iron be? I marked some spots, but I don't really know. I"m going to mine a few hills in the next 4 turns - we'll see if that's where the iron is. Hopefully, it's not under jungle. My hope is that I can start making praets in 6 or 8 turns.

oh - I had Belkar make a worker, which I named Julia - Julia is Roy's little sister. She's hot and popular and a wizard in training at Warthog's school of Wizardy, along with a bunch of students named "he who shall not be named". Durkon has definite ideas of what proper behavior is for her - she and Roy fight a lot, but they love each other.

As i tech towards IronWorking, I'm letting cities grow - I'll grow past happy, even.

This gives me pop to whip - for barracks and praets and for a forum for the cap

So, in the south, we have this:

We are still in enforced peace for, I think, 5 or 6 more turns.

He has a warrior and a chariot visible, plus he had a spear in the area.

I now have a axe and a chariot with a warrior in Xykon and a spear about to finish.

My plan was to settle the yellow circle, but I'm thinking the red circle is where I'll end up settling. It's a tile closer to Xykon, which may be important to reinforce it, I can settle it a turn faster and once I get workshops, the plains has more hammers. Plus, it can't be boated from the southern ocean, which is the main ocean. I think I have more cities on the northern ocean right now, so possibly naval superiority.

There's a theory that you don't do small harms to another civ. Serdoa killed a chariot, which is ok - it might have looked threatening, I dunno.

But he also just killed a road in jungle, which was kind of a dick move. He didn't need to do that and its just 3 worker turns. but it's annoying as hell.

Founded MrScruffy

MrScruffy is Belkar's cat and animal companion. He's a valiant warrior, especially when thrown to a soft, defenseless face. Though, to be fair, he's a house cat, so not all that dangerous.

He's got more appearances than anyone not in the order, though his best line is "meow"

Iron was not exactly where I wanted it:

I mean, I kind of expected it on that spot of jungle plains in the capital. I had hoped another source would show up on a river or at least on a hill I was already mining, but now.

I have 2 workers out west already (Crystal and Eugene) and they will get it hooked up in, I think, 4 turns (they moved there this turn, 2 to mine, 1 to road)

Can you explain the detour to archery before IW? I see 1 archer being built.
Reply

Well, I need cheap garrison units that don't really have weaknesses - axes, chariots and spears are all vulnerable to other units. I didn't show it, but Tarkeel now has a galley in the eastern sea. archers are good basic defenders.

Plus, it's cheap points and power ratings.

I thought about going IW before archery and probably coudl have done that, given when I actually started the archers, but I didn't plan all that carefully.

Tech wise, I picked up mysticism and will get masonry in 2 turns. Probably calendar after that, but I might go construction - if someone else (Serdoa) has construction, then I'll definitely go there

Last turn, I plopped down a new city, Tarquin

it's resource-lite - has wet corn, some rivers, hills, a lake. A nice city that claims more land. Shares the dye with redcloak, which looks to be more of a production city than a commerce one. Redcloak looks like it will be a specialized mil city.

I dialed up a bunch of praets and whipped them this turn - I'll have 6 starting turn 103 smile

Plan is to hit Tarkeel and take his southern cities and one of his gold cities out west. I don't think I can take his capitol without cats (so those are probably next) I don't have anything more than a vague idea as to how to accomplish that, btw. hit him with praets seems like a good plan for now wink

This is something I didn't expect - SD to plop on that tile. I assume there's more seafood that I havent seen? It's kind of a crappy island from what I see - a peak and a clam that you need a border pop to get. I'll send the WB down to check it out.

One thing that I'm not happy about it - it looks like there is no possible way to use both of those crabs in the eastern sea. I expect I'll eventually plant for the northern one, becuase it's going to be a little food short in any case.

You call that a resource lite city? Riverside corn and  3-4 riverside cottages? Thats a good city.

No argument there. I'm quite happy that I got it and I hope to get the corn city up north, too.

It's just that this is a map with a lot of resources. I have cities with:

Deer, cow(shared), clam (shared), whale, 5 lakes that can be lighthoused
Pig, Copper, clam
Fish, Sheep, Ivory, horse
Fish, clam(shared) cow (shared), lighthousable lake, copper, iron
Rice, sheep, stone, silver, fp
Horse, wheat, silver, spices, couple of fps

Literally, I meant that there's only 1 exlusive resource wink it's a fine spot.

It occurred to me that I didn't write up Tarquin, the character. He's a major antagonist in a later part of the story. I don't know who the most evil character is in the series, but Tarquin is up there. Uses narrative structure and dinosaurs as weapons. Seems like he really likes custard, but that might be deceptive. There's a lot more to him, but, you know, spoilers wink

My power is, unsurprisingly, tops now:

My target is Tarkeel - the plan is two pronged and quite raw and unformed wink

1) Send the main force NE, towards his capital. Endor I think will be a fairly easy conquest - beyond that, I'll probably need catapults. he's going to own the seas, if he wants them, since he has triremes and I don't. I probably need a decent sized stack of praets to ensure it's not a total fiasco.
2) Send a secondary force NW, towards his western side/gold cities. I figure that's a couple of praets and some supporting chariots, maybe some archers to help hold anythgin I take. If I take anything, that is.

I need to do a lot of work to turn this vague plan into something that might actually, you know, work wink

This is an interesting city:

I think that's one axe in there, which makes it vulnerable to 2 chariots, though to be safe, I think I'd use 3 and load a praet in to hold the city. But do I want to piss off SD at this point? I mean, he's not going to hold a grudge if I take a city, I'm sure, but it is kind of rude wink
