Woden and Lubijana especially have some high MP.

I'm willing to bet most of that is ships. Wonder if they've already got a target in mind. Might want to get some walls up. I may have to divert to Masonry after Shipbuilding completes.

Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia
Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England

Yeah going to chop out walls real soon. 5 turns or so time.

can we talk about what government to take.

I am 7 turns away from PP. Actually that may be when i take limes so walls in 7.

Autocracy is a natural fit for me but the 2 military slots are very rigid which puts me off.

Oligarchy is really only good if at war.

Classical republic is the most flexible on cards and probably my favorite. Housing amenities and Great people point bonus are ok certainly as well.

I think Autocracy or Classical Republic for you. I'd favor Autocracy over Classical Republic because of the yield bonus - do you think that a diplomatic policy is useful at this stage in the game? If no, take Autocracy. Both effectively give you two economic slots, which is what you really need in order to "permaslot" Ilkum.

In my case if I'm city-state mashing then I'd likely take Oligarchy for the combat bonus, then switch to Autocracy once I was done mashing. I think I'll be building the Government Plaza on Big Island, not the mainland, which will help spread the bonuses a little bit.

perhaps classical republic into autocracy. for all you are right about a diplomatic card i do want the initial envoy counts as 2 and it's only as useless as a second military to me initially.

can still be done in autocracy though in fairness.

Turn 58

Campus in Obvious Child is complete, start a warrior. The increase in Icon_Science has taken a turn off Shipbuilding. Both warriors have now reached the coast but I’ll move the western one up to Al to avoid the embarkation movement penalty. Escort galley starts making the trip back to Al. It shows 5 turns to get there but I’ll likely have the settler meet it halfway between Starfish and Al. Eastern gally is likewise backtracking. On the south side of Big Island I’ve found another river.

There are at least seven city locations on this island that can have fresh water access. Whether or not I settle all seven will depend on a few factors, but that would be a nice outcome.

South of (W)odin I meet up with a Norwegian longboat:

CMF spent 200Icon_Gold last turn. Based on his milpower going up and down I have to think that he’s got some barbarian trouble and bought a warrior. Woden got his tenth tech and Ljubljana has a settler out.

I make an adjustment in Al and start working one of the high-appeal plains hill tiles for some added Icon_Production instead of working the rice. I’m going to spend four turns completing the shrine in Al for some Icon_Faith and Icon_Culture before getting the first warrior built. I’ll still complete Craftmanship so that Obvious Child gets the benefit of Agoge.

One issue I will have with the locations of the iron is that mining them will remove enough appeal from neighboring tiles so that I’ll lose 4Icon_Faith per turn at Obvious Child and two potential Icon_Faith income tiles at Al. If I mine iron the one at Diamonds will be the first to be mined.

TURN 59

Defensive tactics in.

This allows me to promote Pingala and get science up to 19ish

Retreat warrior to block off scout.

Buy that 3 Icon_Food 2 Icon_Production tile to work at Goldson.

Convert al to Rangers and will move missionary over to convert my 4th city in about 5 turns.

That will give us 6 cities following it and the inspiration for Theocracy, will be good to know where that is as i assume it's a priority target for us.

7 turns to PP

Turn 59

Campus at Al is complete; +4Icon_Science, +3 era score, golden age secured with 2 turns to go. thumbsup Shipbuilding down to 5 turns. I’ve got the Defensive Tactics boost from Roland and the Recorded History boost from the Campus building. So, what’s the civics tree look like?

That’s sort of good news as it’s next in line after Craftsmanship. Roland, I’m going to get Recorded History after Craftsmanship and then make the run for Political Philosophy. That also means that Games & Recreation follows Theology.

Shift the warrior, move a couple of backtracking galleys. I get around the eastern corner of Big Island:

The other galley finds something interesting:

This is south of (W)odin. Delicate Arch is likely one tile west of that copper. Fog-gazing confirms it as I can make out the “ATE” in the sans-serif wonder font in the fog. I think I’ll actually steer clear of the coast for the next two turns then try to uncover it after the Classical starts.

Woden got his tenth tech and his milpower is up to 210 (two more longships). In a bit of a fluke (mischief) all three of my current builds will complete on Turn 62.
