[PB59] Ichabod realizes Civ 4 PB is for closers only

Free barrage in catapults is also interesting. With 5 XP catabults, we can actually get the fabled barrage 3, for 100% bonus collateral.  lol Not even sure how that works, by the way (does the collateral affect twice the units in a stack?). Nice bonus to have when we make our final defense of catapults against Mackoti's tanks!

Another interesting point is: everyone will have access to war elephants in this game, as they can be built with iron. This makes a knight rush less profitable, on average. So, aggressive might have some merits in a medieval conquest, with swords, maces, cats and trebs. This is a stretch, perhaps, but it's a possible scenario.

AGG/ORG is a pair that says: if we don't fall behind the leaders until midgame, we have a nice chance of pulling ahead.

Finally, another point against IND: all early wonders require near useless techs. With costs this high, a detour to Priesthood or Masonry might mean we build our first granaries/cottages on turn 100!

Darrell, are you okay with keeping ORG/AGG of Germany and rerolling IMP/IND?

Sure, although I don't know why we'd keep Germany I'm buried at work and assume the answer is in the last dozen posts smile.

I like the idea of settling on Sugar.

I do not think you can reroll IMP/IND.

You can:
- pick CIV, reroll both leaders
- pick one leader (the other returns to the pool and will be available for the other players, reroll CIV
- pick CIV, pick one leader
- reroll both

If you pick anything, that is your final decision on it and you will not get another choice for it later on

Starting techs, basically. Techs cost a lot on a huge map, so we would be in a big pickle if we end up with someone with Myst/The Wheel start.

You are right, I've mistaken a "can't" for a "can" in Charriu's post. I'll give a bit more thought, but I'll likely keep AGG/ORG of Germany.

Germany because we want 2 of Agri, Hunting and Mining for this start. There are only 8 civs that combine 2 of those 3. We already have one (that we won't get re-offered) so we would hope for 7 civs. I except everyone to have a similar start to ours so the chances that out of those 7 many are left seems slim I feel. Like China should be taken, Persia, Khmer, Zulu, Ethiopia I except to be picked as well. That would leave just 2 (Russia, Native America). Russia is definitely no better than Germany and Native America ... eh, I think you could have no UU and UB and would probably do better  lol

Since Lewwyn apparently already gave the next batch of picks, this means we will officially keep ORG/AGG of Germany. Now it's up to us to make it work!

It says something that the starting techs are more important than the UU and UB.

Sorry for the lack of participation. My father was diagnosed with COVID and I spent the weekend worrying. His doing fine, just mild symptoms, but this sort of thing really affects me and I couldn't really focus too much. I just played some SP Civ 6 and bothered the AI.

On a different point: I just made a test that had the following question:

(Based on a previous question, the average grade of a student was 5.5, the std. dev. of the grades was 1.29).

Question: In this school, if a student doesn't reach a grade sufficient to be approved, they analyse the student average grade with a 0.5 bonus. If this would be enough to reach the approval grade, he goes to a teacher's council, where the average grade of the student gets added with 1/3 of the std. dev. of their grade. If this sum reaches the approval grade, he gets approved, otherwise he fails. The approval grade has to be superior to 6.

Did the student in question failed or approved? The question had this options (the others didn't make sense):

1. He failed.
2. He failed, going to the teacher's council.

I marked 1, because 0.5 + 5.5 is not superior to 6 (it is 6 and superior to does not mean higher or equal). But I'm willing to bet that I got this question wrong. What would you all have answered? Considering I'm a lawyer, with the option I chose, I can at least try to annul the question if they say I got it wrong.  lol

And for all the teachers out there: why do you do ambiguous questions like these?  cry
