It seems that we should discuss how to handle pauses / timer extensions. This was the first turn that went (slightly) over 24 hours, so it's not like we have a serious problem yet, but I think we might need to establish some rules, also because for a game this size it might be necessary to handle these different to other games.
First off, while I enjoy < 12 hour turns at this state of the game as I suspect most do, of course everybody is entitled to make full use of their 24 hours, not here to question that.
So I think nobody has a problem with granting timer extensions if somebody is unavailable occasionally, moreso if it is just a few hours. I think it should be expected though to give a short notice here, so everybody is informed what's up. However if there is none, the turn should run through, or maybe only a short extension (2hrs or so) be set. If we regularly extend the timer by 12hrs+ when it seems like somebody could miss the turn we might as well play without a timer, but I think we also know that this is not healthy for the game, moreso with so many players.
Now if somebody needs an extension of 12 hours and doesn't make it a habit in my view that's ok, but please advise beforehand.
So in short, my proposed rule would be:
- If you are unsure whether you are going to get to your turn, please give a short notice here and an extension should be no problem
- If there is no notice mods should, if at all, only set a short extension. If the player still doesn't show up the turn is missed, period.
Also superdeath wrote in one of his comments when he set a long extension that he did so because he was going to be unavailable himself. Maybe we need another mod in the American timezones so he can be relaxed about that? I think Cornflakes has been a mod in other games, would you be up for that here?
Also do we need a mod for the Asia/Pacific zones?
