[SPOILER] On This Day

Cairo made peace with Ruff and they have an OB. I started cutting the roads:

I also sent a peace offer to Ruff. Although maybe we don't need it, the WW is at manageable levels. But in any case I think waiting until cannons is better than losing army capturing the city.
Tech path: Printing Press (raw commerce boost from towns and villages) -> Banking (gold modifier boost, especially nice in shrine cities) -> Steel reqs and Steel.
In addition to cannons we get access to some nice ships since we already have Astro. Cairo isn't really accessible by water to us, but SD and Tarkeel are in case we want to mess with either.

Here are demos. Someone is in GA. Ex-Ruff cities are starting to get off the ground and we will see our lead increase.
I expect someone else to start conquering soon. Cairo is the one with an army, but he's been chilling with us.
That is one reason why maybe asking Ruff for peace was bad. Keeping Cairo's stack idle is better than him conquering AT.

Overview. The settler from Watergate will go on the island east of Mud March.

Power graphs. We've been keeping up with Cairo, but he has access to Oromos which he can draft, and he's going for Mil Trad now for Cuirassiers.
Gotta keep building up our forces even while we wait for cannons to come online. Once they do, I think we'll be in a great shape defense wise.

Ruff accepted the peace so what's done is done.

Something to note about the map: Ruff lacked the two lakes in the west that we had.
Especially the one on the land bridge would be nice for chain irrigation.

Something to consider is that Cairo kept the turn order even after we both exited the Ruff war. So he is still thinking of attacking us.

1484 – William Caxton prints his translation of Aesop's Fables.

1830 – The Book of Mormon is published in Palmyra, New York.

With that, we are done settling.

Hindu shrine gives 46.50 gold pre-banking. Thanks Tarkeel.

Commerce tile yields increased by 72 from Printing Press and the new cities.

Crop yield graph is interesting. Cairo's progress stagnated when he took over from Serdoa.
I think it's due to whipping, but he might also not be growing his cities as much as he should.

Quick detour to Music and Drama for reasons.

Might ragequit later.

I think we got away with it.. Cairo played twice and didn't move towards us.

I don't think he can see past Eudaemonic and nobody would expect a tile to flip for Ruff that far.

I'm not the best at culture junk, but basically Ruff still had majority culture on those tiles and his new capital expanded rings instantly regaining those tiles.

Ruff happened to log in while I was playing. I asked if he'd sign OB. He pillaged the tiles he had captured and logged off without a word.

Anyway I counted the units in my (split) stack. It has 50 knights and 22 catapults. Plus pikes, axes, maces and such that might or might not stick around.

Cairo's making Cuirs so I'm making pikes for border cities. The two forts are built.

Might run 100% culture slider next turn, but I don't really know if it would have any effect. Could be a waste of money.

Fast turns without the world war smile

Cuirassiers are being amassed. We need to get the hell out of this death trap. 4 long turns left.

I don't think it'll make a difference, but I went for a Theater whip, working artists, and building culture.
Increasing the culture slider makes very little difference, absolutely not worth the cost.

Mechanics-wise, cultural control goes to the player who has majority culture (accumulated over the entire game). This thread goes into the details https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/p...cs.633767/ the math is a lot more complicated because for each successive border pop all closer tiles get a +20 bonus in addition to what the city is putting out.

In general when conquering core cities it is expected to never control any tiles that are within range of another city, and to lose tiles whenever borders pop. Sometimes an artist bomb isn't even sufficient to reclaim 1st ring tiles!
