[SPOILERS] Roland and Suboptimal Team Up

I'm currently on the Castles ->Apprenticeship path so I'll go for Square Rigging. The resolution about Archduke capturing Hattusa is new - IIRC I only had the resolutions for Rapa Nui and Yerevan on my turn.

What districts do you currently have under construction besides Harbors?
Sending units to their death since 2017.

Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia
Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England
Rhymin' Simon: PBEM 20 - Indonesia (Team w/ China)

Any plans for increasing science output? I know the terrain is not good for Campus districts but as a team our combined science is the only team below 100 per turn. Woden's suffering down at 29 per turn but the others are pulling away from us. I've got science coming online soon (two libraries and a Campus over the next five turns) and more following that longer term.

Mauseleum down in about 8 turns.

2 library.

2 new citys getting some wonders for the bonus science etc.

then my next district mostly every where will be campus. they are pretty poor campus unfortunately.

some university's and some watts also possible.

it's not going to be super fast but i can get it up.

i can get great library too.

We should spend the next couple of turns/days coming up with a unified plan for the next 30 turns or so - say at Turn 140 where do we want to be in terms of science, commerce, culture and military plans? During my lunchtime mind wandering it's occurred to me we're operating without much of a concrete plan, which is something I'm generally guilty of in most of my PBEMs to date.

- frigates will be coming on line for everyone over the next 15 turns or so, including Woden - despite his lagging science his # of techs is keeping pace. What force composition do we want to build over that time?
- at some point we'll need to back off the Russia/Australia war. Not yet, but what will be our criteria for retreating and attempting to peace them out?
- do we have another target once the DoF's expire or do we adopt a defensive stance and pick our spots later?
- I need to figure out a plan to get a normal age. The Renaissance will not be golden for me in all likelihood.

i will do a more detailed report tomorrow with a plan.

one thing we need to do is get more niter mines down.

i intend to build a fair few Quads even some chopping into them.

agreed on Russia. Need to get that right has to be something in peace for them but maximum in it for us.

i think maybe we go defensive. it's that or try for woden if an opportunity arises. there is still a lot of land out there to be had peacefully if wanted. that one we need to see where we are.

i want to be faith buying troops asap but that is a bit away yet.

given enough time i will get to fleets well before anyone i suspect.

not at all sure i will get that time and not a tactic to rely on and probably ages away.

If we think seven jongs are enough I'll use my Icon_Faith on a couple of builders (one at Big Island and one at home) and get a settler (and something else) over to Midway

I think one thing we need to decide upon is whether Archduke & Ljubljana will go after each other or if they'll independently pick different targets (or the same target) once their DoF ends.

Turn 106

I have a notification that I can call the World Congress. What’s interesting is that it doesn’t list Hattusa as one of the taken city-states. contemplate

Away from the interesting bits the horse moves east, the sword at Hearts and Bones moves west, Confucius moves south, galley moves west. Under African Skies has completed its walls, resumes its monument build and now has four population. I consider starting the Campus but that’s a 28 turn build right now. However, given where I am culturally (middle of the pack with China crushing all of the inspirations for me) shifting to the Campus is the right move. The city has expanded to the salt and is working that tile. Graceland appears to have decided that it’s taking the salt in a couple of turns as the picker has been pointing there the last three turns. That would be good since I could mine the tile and move off the iron to help city growth.

Let’s see...three more turns and Australia’s production freakout will end. Can hardly wait to see how many shipwrecks spawn on this part of the map (“You’ve unearthed a Medieval Era Australian thingy”). So, how many galleys are they up to now?

(forgot to take this while playing the turn so reloaded the start of turn save for the shot)

For now, at least six (there’s one off screen to the east that attacked my galley last turn). One of my promotable jongs can’t get out of the way...yet. Two shots later and it scoots off to the northwest to promote. I drop one galley to 6 damage remaining and sink another. The jong bringing up the rear moves up and can hit the Russian galley for 73 damage. We’ll see how many I can sink next turn. The expected damage of a Line of Battle escort jong against an Oligarchy galley is 112 with a damage spread of 90 to 135. I currently have four such promoted jong available with the others at 3, 7 and 9 XP.

The injured galley has a problem in that the Aussie galley gets +4 from Oligarchic Legacy. I move west as planned, revealing Illmatic.

I finish my movement on the pearls in the bay. I expect to have some company down here in the form of another galley. The city likely has the production to get them out at 1/turn right now. However, base city garrison strength remains 20.

I’ve been back and forth about the objective here. First it was conquer Australia, then it became wound Australia and wound Russia. However, I think “kill” Australia is the better idea. Yes, Russia can snowball from here...however, how well can a single civ snowball in a team game when the teammate is near-fatally crippled or eliminated? What’s the difference between “conquer” and “kill”? I no longer intend on keeping anything but the capital. Razing as much as possible out leaves Australia in a very weak position.

Only noteworthy gossip is England adopting Monarchy. Woden’s empire score indicates he’s got a settler out.

Roland, in relation to your question in your last post my next builder would cost 205Icon_Gold or 100Icon_Faith. I’m going to build one at OC after the library completes.
