[Spoilers] Ichabod's spoiler thread

Report for the past few turns

Major points:
  • We captured 2 cities from Kaiser

  • We are in an Heroic Age, which means 3 dedications. We have the production from Campi, the bonus gold for TR's and the To Arms, which gives unit production and a special casus belli. We didn't take the one that gives + loyalty in foreign cities (we are manging loyalty in conquered cities pretty well) and + naval movement, as we are more than 30 turns away from a relevant navy, I feel.

  • Alliance with Woden is strong, he gifted us 15 oil when I asked. He is facinf the bulk of Kaiser resistance, in the area near Kaiser's Capital.

  • Kaiser is in Fascism, which means his units get +5 Mil Strength.

  • The World Council passed a resolution to make units 50% cheaper (and block Tourism from artifacts, hurting Sub). Our army has 2 Arti Armies and an Arti Corp, so cities are falling faster. We have a tank army, with another coming soon, an infantry army and assorted units.

  • We have Aluminum in the capital, not yet mined. We have 2 more aluminum sources west of the Capital, in easy reach of a new city. We need aluminum for modern units, so that's good. I really want the more advanced air units, since Kaiser currently has no counters for it.
Minor points:
  • We have a national park, built for the Eureka.

  • Spies are trying to steal Suboptimal art and kill his Pingala (my second spy had very low chance of stealing Art, so I avoided it - the other one has 90% chance).
As a whole, things are looking up. The conquest of Kaiser will get harder, as he reached the powerful Fascism government and the unit discount will make it easier to get reinforcements. The bright side is that he has an oil shortage. The other good thing is that his focus is on defending against Woden, not against me.

I'm running as fast as possible for Fascism myself, but I still need to tech Ideology and Totalitarianism. The Insp for Totalitarianism is 3 Military Academies, of which I have none. There's a chance I can get them, especially if I change to that civic that gives production to Camp buildings. It's worth it, perhaps, as getting Fascism is really big.

Tech and Civic wise, I'm a bit behind the leaders, but ahead of CMF. I think I can attack CMF with quite a lot of bonuses, though he is not slouching in military. I see his builds and he's getting a bombard and a catapult... Probably planning to upgrade to Arti? Not sure. Anyway, the best scenario would see me attacking him with +5 from Fascism, +6/+9 from Diplo Visibility, +5 from a modern GG (which he does not have). I don't expect to get a military alliance agaisnt him, as Woden has no point in helping me with that. If Kaiser isn't finished, he'll probably ally CMF. I wonder if CMF would ally Sub, considering Sub is putting loads of Loyalty pressure in CMF (to the point that CMF has to run Bread and Circuses projects). For that reason, I'd never be able to control CMF eastern cities, but he has some cities to the west, which I don't think Sub is affecting.

Another plan is to try and raze some Sub cities, but that's not really feasible in the next few turns. Sub will likely go for all peacenick civics and goverments, perhaps our military supremacy will be able to cause some damage later. It'll be hard to fight his navy though (I wouldn't do it alone, most likely, as Woden needs to damage Sub sooner or later).

Can I make something to make the reports more interesting? This thread feels very lonely. It's a pity we don't have that much interest in Civ 6, because I feel this game is one of those rare ones where the outcome is far from decided deep into the modern era.

Oh, it's fascinating, and I'm reading all the threads with interest and joy. I just don't have anything to say shhh .

"You as well, Brutus?"

Good game, a shame you betrayed me as Woden is in a very very strong position now, which was the reason I declined his peace/alliancs offer one turn earlier.

Enjoy it while it lasts, this has been a new experience for me to fight in this era and it shows

Such a beautiful game deserves a better reporter than me. Right now, I'm murdering Woden's army and braking his Empire in half. I didn't realize how much better my units are than his, due mainly to +9 from espionage. But he's finishing some nukes and, even though I have never seen a Civ 6 nuke, I'm pretty sure my army will be blown into pieces.

As the nuclear apocalipse unfolds, I'm proud to have fought side by side with the Brazilian army. A cobra vai fumar!

CMF will end up winning the game, because Sub, Woden and I will annihilate one another.

Woden nuked the better part of my army last turn. I razed his best city in return (Osgiliath). His empire is divided into west and east now and he has no defenses on the west (were my navy is). But he finished 2 nukes last turn and, while I haven't opened the next turn yet, the rest of my army is probably gone.

I made a game losing mistake by finishing Composites this past turn and upgrading my tank armies in the queue, just as the UN resolution that made units -50% cost ended. At least I'll have Cold War soon, so I can get 50% on the upgraded tanks. I should have gone for Jet Bombers instead of Composites.

I wonder how long the CMF treaty with Woden go. CMF has the biggest army in the world, after the World War. But he can't declare straight away in Woden, due to Canada Cursed Civ. He could theoretically take a lot of ex-Kaiserland, which is the best part of Wodenland after I razed his core.

I already know what happens when a nuke falls on units, I'm guessing I'll learn what happens when they fall into a city. Unfortunately, I don't think I can take Woden's cities near my capital before he can nuke it. And if I lose my Capital... Well, things will get way, way more difficult.

I won't be able to resist Woden for much longer. Nukes are simply too difficult to counter. They kill every unit in the 7 tile radius of the blast, including great people. I lost all my generals, lost my army, my planes. The cities affected by the blast lose all fortification and health and you can't repair them, you can't even build units in the city. There isn't really that much that I can do against that.

In another point, I don't understand Suboptimal. I called a nuclear emergency against Woden, that would give -3 to all Woden units for the duration of the emergency. Obviously, I spent all my meager diplo points in that. He is by far the leader in DP and he only gave the free vote to the resolution. Then he spent a whole lot of points in the useless World Council resolutions, that I can't even remember what they did (double points for a GP and other useless stuff).

CMF need to join the war fast, or it's over. But he still has a DoF with Woden and I think he needs +5 turns after that to declare, due to Canada. Perhaps he is happy playing for second place? Who knows.

One thing that I'm proud of this game is not having signed useless DoF. If it wasn't for nukes, I think I had a chance against Woden (though he spent a whole lot of production on them, that would instead by units to kick my butt, so it's not as easy to claim that), despite having been reduced to just a few cities at one point in the game. I managed that by taking opportunities and you can't take opportunities when you have a 30 turn DoF with everyone for no reason whatsoever. I really can't understand this past DoF's that Sub abd CMF gave to Woden (and they would give me too, if I didn't refuse them before it was obvious that we needed to dogpile Woden). Woden and I were blasting Kaiser, so we obviously couldn't attack CMF or Sub. Why did they need the DoF's then? Who knows.

I'm also proud that my navy plan gave some beautiful results. I lost 2 MG due to a single turn of bankruptcy, but even then, I managed to kill a whole lot of Woden't navy, that had armadas and fleets. I lost some units by being stupid and getting too close to planes, but it was a good investment, I think. I tried to rush Woden's coastal cities to my west after the nukes started falling and so made a lot of mistakes. If it wasn't for that, I think I would have managed even better results.

Ah, aluminum planes are busted. There isn't really much you can do against them. Woden has tons of Anty Air support units, but they do like 20% damage to my bombers, and only one can attack your plane at once. Meanwhile, 4/5 blasts take a city down. Perhaps my espionage strength is skewing things a bit, but if you get aluminum air units before the opponent, I can't see how he counters that.

Next turn Woden probably nukes my Capital, so I'm basically out. I bought two builders in my Kaiser cities to clear out forests and stone tiles. I think I can squeeze some units out of that and perhaps I can delay/damage Woden some more.

I was convinced that you backstabbing me would end in total dominance of Woden, so a big props that you managed to do this well against him.
