Otherwise, works. :-/ As Charriu wrote I didn't add the 'UserSettings'-folder because I do not want overwrites your local values with the default ones! I missed that this leads to this annoying message if you didn't copy the previous UserSettings folder.
I've updated the Zip-Archive on PBSpy by simply adding an empty folder. Nevertheless I would suggest to keep your previous values if you adapted the BUG-mod values.

Overwriting the old version is a good solution in this case. I do not recommend it as standard way of updating because two problems can occur: This way can never delete files and users often unzipping files into an sub-directory.

I was able to log in and play my turn, but the game gave me an error that I would crash upon login since the mod versions were different. (A different error from my usual "you files don't match the host" one.) But everything seemed to work ok.
This is interesting for me. I added a checksum to allow the game at login stage to compare the local and the server mod version.
To generate no false positives I made a very conservative approach and just check for differences of two files: Assets/CvGameCoreDLL.dll and update_info.json. Did both files exists?

Fwiw I used the in game update functionality, which has been working totally smooth for me since PB54. ( to Ramkharriu)
As I'm not sure if it was totally clear, your mod folder should still be named 'CloseToHome_2.0'. The version number never gets changed for running games.

also PMed Lewwyn, Krill, Thoth, OH, and Noble re: covering for Jowy, as they likely are not reading here. Whom else? We should probably establish a thread for these requests in civ general.

Thrawn maybe? Not sure this is a good idea but could have unrelated advantages.

Charriu gives every (stable) mod version a new name to reflect the version number directly in it.
A totally normal approach but changing the name is problematic in terms of running games (mod name is stored into the save file.)
For this reason I branch to a constant different mod name if a PB is starting. To avoid further confusion we maybe should naming the mods used in PB games by the RB PB number, e.g. RB59 instead of CloseToHome_2.0.

Not trying to be obtuse, but I'm frustrated by the process and now the execution, it's late and I'm going to bed.
Replacing the old mod with https://civ.zulan.net/pb/volatile/CloseToHome_2.0.zip
is enough. No renaming needed, if it is the correct file and unzipping didn't add a parent folder, etc.
To keep your BUG settings you can copy the 'UserSettings' folder from the previous mod version.

Like Ramk already said you need to get the version from PBSpy. I only provide the version in my subforum for documentation purposes and those, who want to test it beforehand. I will add more clear instuctions not to use that version for running games in the future. I also agree with you, Ramk, about the highlighted part.

In my ClosetoHome_2.0 folder, I've got Assets/CvGameCoreDLL.dll and update_info.json. In that mod assets folder, I also have a CvGameCoreDLL.dll.old. And, predictably, my main BtS install also has an Assets/CvGameCoreDLL.dll.
I've gotten the "Warning: The version of our game files do not match our host's" error since RB PB 38 and it's persisted between mod versions of RtR and CtH. If your check only looks at the mod, this is irrelevant, but I mention it.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.

After I updated I got this warning that the game would crash too. I reloaded the mod from inside Civ, rather than from my desktop shortcut and the warning disappeared. After I created a new shortcut I no longer get the warning either. Not sure how it's relevant or if there was something wrong with my old shortcut ...

Is there a term for having a nonconsensual update forced on you?
