[SPOILER] On This Day

Who'd win, modern soldiers or some horsey bois?

28 knights died for this. We razed the city of course.

Tarkeel is researching the tech that gives him Battleships, Marines and Tanks. Help.

Tarkeel wiped out the injured knights. With an extra one to spare I could have cut the road, but with railroads he would have had workers in range to make a new one.
The knights I don't care too much about, but WW is hitting hard now.

I was hoping Tarkeel would be agitated and come in with his stack, but no such luck. If he had, we could have wiped it out.

I'm happy about taking down two cities at least, but now I'm out of tricks and waiting for the game to end.

Is that a concession?

Yeah, I said a while ago that if Cairo and SD have conceded, I will too.

What if Cairo says he'll concede if you do?

I guess we will keep playing.

Will be interesting to read how he managed to get to those production numbers.
Mm, guess I could tear up my cottages for workshops to get closer. Just feels wrong to me, I like the idea of specialized cities.
That said, for most of the game we were tied in soldiers and I got infra done in good time.
If I got some help instead of having to watch my own back, I think I could have used those soldiers to do something about Tarkeel.

My biggest mistake though, I think, was not taking enough risks. Of course I could have ended up in a worse place if I took those risks and lost out, so it's a little hindsight heroey.
Two possible high gains: Attack SD with my main land stack. I was close to doing it, but I was too afraid of Cairo stabbing me in the back. Which, to be fair, was a real threat.
The other is attacking Tarkeel through AT's OB as I had planned. Same reason for not doing it: I was afraid of SD or Cairo attacking me.

I think I will fully concede now. So the game should be over if what OH said still stands.

I think Cairo was just going for a cultural victory, which would explain why he hasn't done anything.

Some screenshots from the final turn:

Overview.

Unit count. Plan for Tarkeel's main stack was airships + cannons + clean up with rifles or grenadiers.
Plan for Tarkeel's naval superiority was.... hope and pray.

Cities by production.

Cities by science.

The reason I never gave you Open Borders was because from what I had understood from Serdoa was that we had never had OB, so I didn't want to give you the info from exploring my land (and I was in Merc so there was no benefit economically). I had hoped the Defensive Pact would signal my intentions, but clearly it had the wrong effect.

When I took over from Serdoa I got the impression (not sure if it was a correct one) that you were my number one enemy and were about to attack me with Knights at any moment. I only really got out of that mindset when Tarkeel became the obvious leader. That is also what screwed me over with tech so much, I spent far too long worrying about you attacking me that I let things like tech slide. I probably could have the gotten the Music Great Artist and the Taj Mahal for example, but instead I went for techs to give me Pikes and Knights so I wouldn't die to your Knights.
