[Mjmd #59] Sea Shanties!

Man my mistakes just keep biting me in the butt.

The bad:
-So last turn (technically turn prior) Ramk had dropped off axes at Barrets. I assumed the galley that did that would move to pick up swords. Nope 4th galley incoming. I should have known. I should have given up the 1 net I have left over there and split up the 2 galleys vs 1 that dropped off. Now he has 3 galleys at the only choke over there and a 4th coming up. I thought about moving my galleys this turn but now he can just run the 1 around and with the 3 in the bottleneck there isn't a point.
-Also last turn I started an axe in Boots last turn (I should have turn prior). What I didn't do was put 5 hammers into (which is the max i can if I work a bare plains tile). I thought it was incredible likely he would drop off axes on the wine. Is there a reason I didn't put 5 hammers in so I can whip this turn? smoke smoke smoke . I have an axe and a spear there. Now vodka is giving him a 24% chance (which I would have figured like 40% but math), so if I was able to whip the axe this turn I would likely be fine...... As is I have to hope my axe wins, but is injured enough that the spear becomes top defender, so axe can defend next round...... I also positioned my galley perfectly 1 tile too far away (I wanted to be in position to protect Worst Ship's fish, but I should have known south was more likely).

So I am 100% going to lose 1 city and probably 60% to lose the other.

The Good:
NEXT TURN THERE SHALL BE BLOOD!!!!! I have 12 axes in range of his army on the hill that don't have to cross the river, and another 2 on the other side. He will have 10% fortify, but I still expect victory. Cost doesn't matter that much as it will allow me to mine my own copper again........ Also will free up troops to you know protect the border rather than the middle of my empire. Hopefully get some promos going.

Edit: smoke move on 1 axe, ah well trade axe for a chariot

The axe I incorrectly moved won an 89% vs chariot; sadly it used my luck and I lost a 68% at Boots which means he has both axes on the inland sea again and Boots is razed..... Even if it was razed next turn by surviving axe I would have had a chariot on my galley to kill it. If Ramk could stop winning the low odds fights that matter........ I had a non zero chance of retaking Royal Oak with my now promoted axes if I had killed both.

Back to his main stack in my territory: the other 2 chariots razed things (horse & cottage) and were deleted. I had 2 workers nearby to road in case he decided to pillage a road and try to run from turn prior, so they are re improving horse while 3rd worker will get started on copper next turn.

I sent in 4 unprompted axes (low odds) and my shock axe (50%) . Lost the shock axe, but won a low odds. Lost 4 axes total to kill 5 axes and a spear. Plus 2 deleted chariots. Major pain and ouches, but at least out of my hair now. I usually turn off attack automation, but I'm on an old laptop and I hadn't so got to see the action, which was kind of cool.

With boots razed and a few units gone, my costs are down and currency is in 6 turns.

T102 - Not only is Ramk better than me, but he continues to be luckier than me!!!!! He only lost 1 unit taking Barrets and it was a 74% battle for his sword vs my spear. Yes you heard right, he beat both axes at low odds.

Ramk offered and I took peace. I wouldn't be able to do anything for about 6 turns anyways. But this will let me resettle Whiskey and Boots sooner. I'll resettle 1 city a turn for three turns starting next turn. It also lets me move through my work boat finally to Irish Rover. I also don't have to worry about his galley pillaging my nets outside WorstShip while my galley resettles boots (which I was going to do anyways, but just much slower)

So yes I've had bad luck / Ramk has had good, but lets talk a little bit more about levels of thinking in gaming. Lets answer the question of why was Royal Oak undefended with an axe it produced in Ramk land. Also, why Rolling down didn't have a whip available. Again I'm at level 1, what can I do? Obviously Ramks army was in my heartland, but at that point I had it mostly contained (minus an unfortunate incident at Grog I could have 100% prevented). I recognized an advantage in that I had 4 cities not in the fight that were just getting ready for their first 2 pop whips. It didn't make much sense to whip 1 movers or chariots to contain a stack I already had numeric advantage against. So my brain in its scheming came up with settling Ramks peninsula...... The worker he stole actually was supposed to have been dropped off there, but I forgot it was on the galley (unloaded axe,  loaded worker turn prior and because I had unloaded something and then forgot to note, brain just farted, so decided to have it do something ie chop the forest it was on when he stole). I of course failed to consider what he could do with his GG even though its  not like I'm unaware movement galleys are a thing.......

T105 now that I've gotten that off my chest. I've been very bad about screenshots. Here is current empire with all 3 razed cities refounded (at least I found a use for that 3rd settler.....).

Some cool things:
-Ramk is really really good, but not perfect. After we peaced he could have pillaged net at Whiskey and didn't, so that city gets a  little boost.
-4th ring culture from capital will let me start re-improving pigs T107.
-Grog will have a granary before it grows to size 2, so that city will rebound really quick.
-Not a cool thing, but really agonized between a worker and settler at capital. I think I want one more settler and by time its finished (5 turns) I should*** have the worker labor.

International things:
-Mig settled both island jungle cities, has impressive graphs, and in general weak neighbors. Why couldn't he get Ramk as a neighbor! Yes Ramk was weak early and I shouldn't have been injured this much, but Migs neighbors are just letting him do his thing. I want that!
-GKC has a nice little power spike (graph whos almost to my level) and declared on Lazteuq (Ramk also did and I'm wondering if that 5 move galley is repaying GKC for not stabbing Ramk in the back during our war). *** Pre post edit, so I had taken screenshot last night and GKC had declared war. Logged in this morning after Ramk had declared and indeed Laz is now down to 10 cities. Now Lazteuq has not shows a large spike yet, which as he was at war with Charriu and bordering Mongolia who had open borders with other neighbor..... Ya signs were there Laz!. The only good thing is Charriu made peace literally right before GKC declared. He is aggressive and I doubt GKC has construction yet, so should be able to limit the damage if he at least had some spears in queue.

I mean you did raze Ramks city after you settled the island. If you didn't raze it its unlikely Ramk would have dived you as such IMO. With that choice made though, you had two options, beat him down or prepare for the oncoming. People are not AIs so they have emotions. Either you attack and conquer them or at least cripple them to the point they can't come back.

I mean I lived at peace with Charriu for 150 + turns after he razed a new city of mine in PB52 (and heavy whipping war early). You can choose to try to recover...... If I wasn't so bad and Ramk wasn't so good AND lucky he would have been much better just spitting out cities with imperialistic.

I do think I underprepared, but it was an impressive army Ramk put together on such low # of cities. Also as stated geography and lack of foresight with dive into empire were key factors.

Ramk entered a golden age and settled an additional 2 cities (now he decides to use Imperialistic /sigh). I was going to try to get some galleys into his back lines with units, which I 100% could have done, if I had thought of it sooner..... As his his horse island city blocked me from doing. Barret also got a lucky hinduism spread rant so I won't be able to have galleys ready to dart back from that point as it will expand before peace is up.

I'm torn if I should be PMing him about turn order, but there isn't any way he doesn't know that this was just a hiatus? I was playing before him as I had been during the war and then 2 turns ago while I was thinking on some things he played. Which wasn't a big deal because I had moved all of my units. This turn however he did double move me. I mean normally people want the second half. I was prepared to take first half again, but evidently he wants? I can see that if he thinks he will be on defense (why I really wanted for last war and it helped a lot / should have helped more).

International news is that Lazteuq and GKC made peace. Laz is back up to 12 cities and as far as I can tell GKC didn't take anything with his almost double in power?

I lost a galley of Ramks going into Migs territory. It must still be there. He is wondering about 2f 4c tiles. Which is due to colossus. Someone try to tactfully and non spoiler say this in the "new mod thread". I obviously don't want to say anything. I have a galley doing sentry in one of Migs corn copper islands. I may drop off a spear in the other for sentry.

I was going to show situation outside royal oak, but my computer doesn't want to do screenshots again. I took one, exited, tried putting to imgur. So you get Vodka. I'll probably throw a couple in and see how odds change. He has 2 archers, 2 axes, and a spear. I have a whole mess of axes.

He has multiple galleys near islands in north and I'm assuming some units to shuffle around. I don't think I'm making progress there.
