In Tribal all the levies and money you get is based off your Level of Fame (which is a measure of the cumulative Prestige earned over a character's life). Skirmantas was at the highest Level of Fame, "Living Legend", and so he was maxed out on all that from his Tribal vassals.

In Feudal, it is all based on Contracts. There are 5 levels for taxes and levies, where demanding lower amounts will give you Opinion boost and demanding higher amounts gives you Opinion malus. The only way you can demand more is either by using a Hook on the character or incurring Tyranny (which is like bad Opinion only it applies to everyone). EDIT: I think everybody defaults over to the middle tier when they were switched from Tribal to Feudal.

For Clans (the government name for most of the Muslim and Indian world) it is based off Opinion ... i think.

Quote:Also, I’ve bought the game! Playing the extended tutorial in Ireland and I feel like gold costs are high for everything. I make like 5.5/mo and an economic building which pays .3g/mo costs 100+ gold! Should it really take 2+ years full income to buy a building which will then take 30 years to pay back its investment?!

Some of that is based on terrain. I think farms are the best and give you 0.5/month, but hill farms or logging camps are more like the 0.3/month. It does add up, and Development level adds a percentage on top of that (0.5% per development in the county). My game before this one I played as the King of Leon and completed the Reconquista - there I had an income of over 50 per turn and couldn't spend my gold fast enough. So it does add up if you build it up right.

But you'll notice I've rarely built any buildings so far this run. I think I built 2 buildings all of Skirmantas' reign and those I probably shouldn't have. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to build as a Tribal. It can, but it didn't as long as I was expanding. I was actually training Sventaragis to be a Steward so I could show off the economy side a bit more in his reign ... well instead Vingoldas is more of a warrior type like his grandfather. But I still plan on highlighting the economy side of things in the next reign.

Also, 5.5 gold per month is about what the whole Empire of Greater Lithaunia makes right now lol

Thanks pindicator! And great last update!

One more question: who is the wife that the murdering son was complaining about? I searched the thread and I couldn’t find her name...

I meant that was his mother, Gaudimante.  I really didn't note her much, but I wish I had when I discovered the killer was Sventaragis!  I had noted that Sventaragis was born with the Ugly congenital trait back in Part One, and that it had come from his mother whom Sventaragis had taken as a concubine.  But I did not mention anything further about her.  Once I realized that my king had a concubine with a bad congenital trait I kicked her out.  I did not want any bad traits in my children! She left the court and I didn't bother to check on her again.

When I went back into the game to find her, after I found out who the killer was, I found she drank herself to death in the same year that Sventaragis was confronted as the killer.  So I took a couple literary liberties there in giving Sventaragis motivation for his killing.

I'll also add that it was a bit uncanny how often murders in game would happen after events related to Sventaragis.  The first killing really happened 2 weeks after Sventaragis returned from the bad trip to Kaiser Poppo's palace.  And the letter written in blood really happened a few weeks after I had given away a county that the game had slated as Sventaragis' inheritance.  That part really wrote itself.

Your Lithuanian campaign is better than all my Let's Plays combined.  Crusader Kings really does feel like a medieval soap opera when you play it, and generates better stories than Civilization.  Back when Crusader Kings 2 could (barely) run on my computer, I was somewhat successful with Ireland.  The funniest part was when England had a Shia heir apparent due to the succession law being Seniority for some reason.  Unfortunately, he died before he could ascend to the throne.

Does Crusader Kings 3 keep the best lines from 2, like "Your low character is the subject of Greek plays?"
"I wonder what that even looks like, a robot body with six or seven CatClaw daggers sticking out of it and nothing else, and zooming around at crazy agility speed."

Sadly it does not.  Actually, I don't think 3 is quite as fleshed out as CK2 for that natural story telling.  It feels like they could turn up the interactions between characters just a bit more.  Or maybe the AI should be a little more ruthless in attacking you / plotting against you.  Perhaps I need to change a setting somewhere.

Thank you for the compliment.  I know I don't comment a lot on other threads, but I do enjoy reading through your Let's Plays when I have time.  (Writing up these takes a lot of work, as I'm sure you know!)  But if I were to suggest one thing I would say try to add some screenshots.  Although I think taking and then digging through screenshots for the right one is probably what takes the most time in making these write-ups.

The Switch screenshot/video feature used to have a stupid restriction where you could only post it to Facebook or Twitter, but now there's a "send to smartphone" option.  There's a small chance I may be able to upload a few screenshots for Nexomon Extinction Custom Mode madness, but that depends on whether Realms Beyond accepts them or not. . .

In the Ireland playthrough, I emailed screenshots to a friend of mine.  She doesn't play video games, but she did appreciate the melodrama of Crusader Kings 2.  There's no chance of me being able to run the game now since it barely worked with the minimum graphics settings before most of the expansions had been added.

Crusader Kings 3's AI seems lax to me too, if the Let's Play is like a typical playthrough.  I can't picture the CK2 Catholic AI rulers standing by as a horde of pagans overruns eastern Europe.  tongue

Echoing the others; thanks for these, Pindicator. I'd almost forgotten how much I prefer reading playthroughs, compared to videos. They're very well-written, and remind me of the internet years ago, in a good way. smile

They are bad for my wallet though. This is the most I've wanted to buy a game in a while.
Past Games: PB51  -  PB55  -  PB56  -  PB58 (Tarkeel's game)  - PB59  -  PB60  -  PB64  -  PB66  -  PB68 (Miguelito's game)     Current Games: None (for now...)

FWIW I'm playing on a Surface Pro i5 model (fanless) with integrated graphics, and so far Kings III is running fine via at native external display resolution of 1920x1200 and everything on low. I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps you have an older processor and the game requires some Thread 1 firepower, but graphics wise it would be hard for you to have less than I do smile

I signed up for XBox Game Pass (PC version) for this. It's $1 the first month and $10 after that. Obviously if I keep enjoying the game I should go ahead and buy it, but for a buck I appreciated the ability to both see if it would run okay plus give me the chance to wait for a sale.

Vingoldas, Interregnum

Upon Skirmantas' death, Emperor Vingoldas assumes the throne:

The Emperor is Generous, Compassionate (conveniently now a Virtue with the new reformed Vidilist faith), and Gluttonous.  He has the Quick congenital trait (+1 to all stats), and has several Commanding Traits as well: Logistician (+100% Supply Duration) and Reckless (+6 Maximum Battle Roll, -4 Minimum Battle Roll).

We have also had our first Mental Break with the AI, and became a Drunkard to cope (-2 Stewardship, -2 Prowess, Tiny Health Penalty, +20% Stress Loss, +10 Opinion of other Drunkards).

The 4 kingdoms within Greater Lithuania have been inherited by the 4 brothers:

King Kesgaila of Poland is Ambitious, Shy, and Gluttonous.  He was educated in Intrigue and earned the highest ranking, Elusive Shadow.  He has the congenital trait Intelligent (+3 to all stats).  But stress has caused him to become a Profligate (-10% monthly income, 0.5 Piety/month, +20% Stress Loss) and Reclusive (-2 Diplomatic, -1 Stewardship, +20% Stress Loss).

He has been made Spymaster of Greater Lithuania, as the 22 Intrigue stat is the best in the land.  This bumped his opinion of Emperor Vingoldas up to +2.  Perhaps making an Ambitious King with a claim on the Empire spymaster was a bad idea, but I think this playthrough could use a little more spice and intrigue.  However, because King Kesgaila is my ally he cannot join a faction against me.

King Tovtiivilas of Pomerania is Calm, Trusting, and Impatient.  He was educated in Stewardship and earned the highest ranking, Midas Touched.  He has the congenital trait Intelligent, but is currently Ill (-4 Prowess, -20% Fertility, Severe Health Penalty, +100% Dread Loss, -10 Natural Dread).

He has been made Steward of Greater Lithuania and we pray to Dievas for his recovery.  He currently has a poor Opinion of the Emperor, at -19.  He also has an alliance with me and so cannot join a faction against me.

King Lutuveras of Estonia is Paranoid, Content, and Shy.  He was educated in Diplomacy but received the worst ranking, Naive Appeaser.  Like his father, is also Reclusive due to stress/mental breaks; and like his brother, he is a Drunkard.

He already has a great Opinion of the Emperor (+51) and since he is really good at nothing, has been assigned no position.

Interesting enough, none of the Kings are considered Powerful Vassals.  I have read before that kings don't give a very efficient level of levies and taxes compared to dukes, so perhaps that has some reason as to why my Dukes are considered powerful vassals while the Kings are not.

My powerful vassals are highlighted in red above, and they are:

Prince Dravenis, my uncle and Duke of Samogitia
Duchess Betten of Courland, currently in prison due to her previous incestuous relationship
Duchess Anele of Latigalians, who has been appointed Chancelor
Duke Gediminas of Gardinas
Duke Kestutis of Polockas, who has been appointed Marshal

I do expect to see some of these powerful vassals shift over to the kings as they consolidate power within their realm and get their own vassals in line.  Otherwise I'm going to have to question this powerful vassal system.

Looking at our neighbors:

In the north, Sweden has been expanding into Finland.  They are currently winning a war and look to be cutting me off from any northern aggression.  I will need to watch them to make sure they do not pick up the last county of Estonia which is not under my control.  (Estonia is de jure Scandinavia land, but I will try to use my Chancellor to make it de jure land in my realm.)

The northern lands of Rus have splintered and the Rurikids have been splintered into a number of small duchies and counties.  Novgorod, now ruled by House Pskov, is starting to expand northward but is likely a future conquest of mine.  In the east Vologda, the Ukonusko faith is beginning to come into its own as a regional power.

Ruthenia is the main power in central and southern russia, but they are no longer ruled by the sons and daughters of Rurik.  The Piasts have fled east and the Catholic, Polish Queen Anne is ruler there.  They are making gains north into White Rus, capturing Chernigov and most of Smolensk.

The main remnants of House Rurik are found in the south of Rus.  The Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia extends southward to the Byzantines and is ruled by Queen Predslava.  Grand Prince Alexandr rules Pereyaslavl, and also traces his lineage back to Rurik.  However, he has converted to Catholicism while Predslava remains Orthodox.  Religion in the area is constantly changing as you can see below:

And the wide world:

The biggest change is in the Central Asia where Cumania has fractured into a bunch of warring tribes.  Our previous allies, Caucasus, have carved out one of the larger pieces and are currently at war with Cumania for lands north of the Caspian Sea.

To the south, the Persian Empire has returned back to the Seljuk Caliphate though their borders are largely unchanged.

Byzantium has made gains north of the Black Sea and in the southern Caucasus Mountains, but have lost any influence over Wallachia to the Holy Roman Empire, who has extended their reach beyond Hungary.  In turn, the Holy Romans have lost land to the newly emergent Sicily, and King Botolf there has extended his realm into Northern Africa.

In the far east, the biggest change has been the rise of Paramara in northern India.  Maharaja Dambarisimha now rules the Kingdoms of Malwa, Himalaya, and Kosala.  He seems to be on his way to forming the Empire of Rajastan - though currently is losing a war against the Rudrani to the northwest.

In the far west, Norway's grip on Britain is starting to loosen, as the Catholic Anglo-Saxon England is now independent, composing mostly lands in Mercia and a few other scattered territories within England.  King Oshere Beorhtfrithson of England is waging war against Norway for all of England, and currently seems to be winning.  King Lugaid of the Scots has turned Alba into a Catholic kingdom as well.

And in Spain, Castille has conquered Navarra and now is slowly making gains down the Portugal coast.  The Reconquista has begun!
