Well both introduce ALOT of unfair variables.
The mark of a good player is how they deal with the many variables in Civ, such as starting location, surrounding land, and nearest civs. Goody huts and random events just add a few more variables and also add variety to the game.
Events also add a lot of storytelling value, which I like.
Well, we have mapmakers that make a map that brings the starting location/surrounding land to a fair/even distribution. Again, Goody huts/random events are great, but really only in Single Player. MP games should have the fewest amount of variables. Should be based on skill, and some neighbor luck. Not who got Metal casting in a goody hut, or got the 20 horse archers for free from building some stables.
If you want to have a no-holds barred MP game, can always start a thread for that kind of PB.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

PB49 was the last time Realm's Beyond tried playing with events, and is worth reading. Nothing quite like a horse archer army appearing out of nowhere, or your enemy's forces gaining free shock just as you're declaring war.

Couple of housekeeping notes.
Please read the first post in the etiquette thread here:

Please create a thread. If you and your ded lurker communicate via other means that is fine, but need for at least starting screenshots. Obviously posting is nice for both lurkers and after the game your fellow players.

So each player posts in an initially private thread that's later opened for public view?

More or less, but there's no technical limitation that makes it private. We are operating on a honor system.
Adding to Mjmd. It's best practice to put your password for the game in the first post in case anything happens and somebody else needs to log in.

Also if don't understand one of the changes in CtH, then don't be afraid to ask. I'm usually making the rounds clarifying any misunderstanding.

Looking over the voting sheet, here's my executive summary:
Pangea, standard size
Snake pick
Barbarians on, but no ships/cities
Monarch difficulty
TrueAIDiplo on (opens up declare war/stop trading as trade items)
War weariness is close, but leans off?
Spies are too close for me to call
No score is too close for me to call
My personal opinion would be to leave war weariness on and spies off. For a greens game it might be best to also use no-score as it tones down the cloak-and-dagger department considerably.
@JesseL: Difficulty affects more than just AI production bonuses, such as maintenance and happiness. Monarch is where most of those other modifiers are at their "default" values, and has been the norm for Realms Beyond, while CivForum usually plays at much higher levels.
