[PB61 spoilers] Bing Xi Lao stumbles into the ring

Hallo chaps!

It's been years since I played the game unmodded (or just lightly modded with CtH) - I've been messing around with Dune Wars Revival, Sword of Islam revival, and FFH2 modmods. I've also never played a Civ game in multiplayer.
I have played a lot of Age of Wonders 1/2 PBEMs and Dominions 5 in the past few years though.

Good luck and have fun!

Good luck and have fun indeed. It’s always good to see new faces in the community.

Huh, I never knew there was a PBEM community for Age of Wonders 2. How does player vs player tactical combat work, is it just always auto-resolved?

Reply

Yes unfortunately it's always autoresolved. AoW2 PBEm is on GoG, AoW1 too but that's mostly shifted to a discord server.

Also, I just subbed back into a SMAC PBEM elsewhere on the net, having previously been dumpstered out of that game. Really cool game, SMAC, even though I don't really know how to play.

I'm thinking Charismatic for this one for the reliable convenience aspect of happiness and easier-built culture. Undecided on the other trait, but since it'#s my first game I'd want something else that's convenient and easy to use, along with a civ with relatively early UU and UB. I gather that Praetorians and Vultures tend to get snapped up in picks pretty quick though - but if I get one it might even be fun to go Aggressive.

Where did you find a Smac PBEM?

Which other traits are you considering? Sumeria is not a popular pick, and I think the big game (PB59) is the only time they've been used for CtH. Vultures are actually weaker against other axes!

Edit: This should give you an idea of which traits and leaders are popular picks in CtH.

BING_XI_LAO, here is your starting location. Beware of the danger of gazing into the fog, anything outside of the BFC of where you settler is can possibly change before the map is finalized.

Well, agriculture civs dont seem to be the way to go this game. hunting fishing would be optimal start.

Greece, Vikings have both. Not a fan of either civ.

Sounds like the really important starting tech is Fishing. I would make a fishing boat before a worker right?
Maybe I'd go for Financial-Imperialistic instead then giving the river and the water and the food. Nation pick would be fishing tech+defensive unit?
