I left off speculating that Miguelito/Rusten were close to knights. They had them a turn or two later and attacked DZ as expected. To be honest, I had hoped they would be slower. DZ managed to reach Engineering basically on the eve of the attack. So far, his pikes did not even slow down M/R. DZ lacks the economic substance to put up an effective resistance. He has now put every unit he could squeeze out into the fortress with the (likely) telling name Tombstone.
Miguelito was able to reduce the castle defense to 44% in just 2 turns with precision catapults (and to 18% the following turn). If DZ leaves his army in place the catapults and knights will slaughter him. I was considering entering the war on DZ's side but didn't have any contemporary units. The vultures from the AT war are highly promoted but obsolete, the catapults all died and making a new army would have interfered with the recovery and probably been too late anyway.
So I will have a new neighbor soon, unfortunately. I did build some elephants and catapults to have at least some force at the border when M/R arrive there.
Domestically, I fired off the first GA to catch up in tech and build infrastructure. The Sumerians aquired Monotheism, Monarchy, Feudalism, Machinery and Compass in a burst of creativity. Some malcontents hold that the research was helped along by diffusion of knowledge from more advanced societies. A claim so self-evidently ridiculous that the high priests have not bothered to deny it.
After the GA we also managed to get Optics helped along by a small loan from Charriu. Next turn, the aforementioned map trade with mackoti should earn us another trade route in each coastal city, an 80-85 gpt boost.
The following screenshots show the home lands
and conquered lands
in the last turn of the GA.
During the GA we also made two scientists for the Astronomy bulb and generated merchant GPP in the capital and artist GPP
in Adab.
The later was a bit stupid because Adab is defended by 4 obsolete units and it really doesn't pay to antagonize M/R just yet. No vengeful knights have been sighted so far, thankfully. Some longbows and caravels will toughen Adab's defense very soon.
Demo after the GA:
I whipped a good number of forges and ziggurats after switching back into slavery so these numbers should improve a decent amount in the near future.
