Now that the map is finalised, I thought it best to start a fresh lurker thread.

rekenner would probably be better off making two workers before the settler.

Bellarch seems to be considering Stonehenge before Settler in his latest post, after unfortunately scouting into his back lines and missing some food tiles. Hopefully he decides against his proposed coastal corner plant of a second city…

Do all the players have a dedlurker? Some really require a bit of guidance. Would be OK for me to post some general comments?

All except Vanrober has one, but some are more active than others. I think it should be ok to comment more than usual in this one, at least while going off stuff you see in their screenshots.

I'm slightly worried that all the resources have blinded the players to speed; we're at T28 and AFAICT, nobody has a settler out yet. For comparison, in 58 with much worse starting terrain, our first settler completed T28 and founded T28, without whipping. At least Vanrober has two (fast) workers out. The border regions are tight, so expect a fair amount of pink dots early on.

Several of those starts would have been well served with a second worker before the settler. Settler comes turn 30-35 only but the second settler will be shortly behind it. But yes, for single worker starts a bunch of them are too slow. Several are also researching incorrect techs and using their worker labor inefficiently. Not necessarily surprising in a newbie game.

Btw, I thought your PB58 start was weak. mischief

I haven't nearly simmed these starts enough, but you're probably correct that with these resources you should get two workers out, which will bring the second city up fast as well. It's hard to stay silent when you see dotmaps with the first 2-3 cities going into what they know are safe backlands, when first ring cities will have culture contact.

(For PB58, I probably should have whipped more in the start, but it didn't feel right. It did work out well as we did keep pace with the IMP players)

I have to say JesseL is a really unique player already.
