[PB57] Pindicator searches for his mascot

Thanks for the highly-detailed reports of the front. The stack pictures are great. popcorn

Maybe a strange question, but have you slow-built any of the musketmen, or are they all drafted? I'm curious about whether you think they're strong enough to bother building the normal way.

The vast majority are drafted. There are 1 or 2 that I've slow built, but there's so much competition on what to build that I'm just relying on drafting for them. I'm building Cuirassiers, Catapults, & Privateers and I don't feel like I have enough of any of them.

Speaking of drafting, I forgot to mention I did draft and then revolt to Vassalage this turn. Considered swapping to Org Rel but I'm building so many units right now that I'm just going to stay in Theocracy+Vassalage for 4xp on all new units.

I missed something. Dammit.

Ugh, i'm an idiot!

I saw that galley last turn and was only thinking about how it could move south. Could have easily covered this city if I had only thought a little. At least it's a crappy city, but it's a good chunk of infra.

Luckily, TBS also goofed himself:

I don't think he realized how much culture I've put into that city and he expected it to come without any anarchy time.

Turn 157

TBS kept his main stack out of range, but there were plenty of units to clean up.  I killed 4 cuirassiers and 5 catapults, and lost/deleted 2 axes and a war elephant for it.  I went back and looked at TBS' half of the combat and he had killed my musket and 3 longbows inside Charger Blue but I had won battles against 2 Trebuchets and 1 Knight.  So far the exchange looks like this:

My Losses: 420 hammers
1 Musket
4 Longbow
1 War Elephant
2 Axes

TBS Losses: 950 hammers
1 Nav-2 Galley
4 Cuirassiers
1 Knight
2 Trebuchet
5 Catapult

And of course I'm down 2 cities.  One is Charger Blue which we're fighting over, and the other is the city I never should have left undefended.

I thought about stopping research to upgrade my units.  Turning War Elephants and Horse Archers into Cuirassiers would be a big boost.  But as long as I can trade 1-for-1 with my outdated stuff for his modern stuff, then I suppose that's just as good.  Besides, I really need to get to the next tech era of units.  Once I get Astronomy > Chemistry > Mil Science then we can think about upgrades.  Maybe Steel.

There won't be any attack on Cornflakes now.  Old Harry beat me to it by 1 turn:

We still loaded up our galleys to go after Sugar Cookies but with Old Harry having units in the area now I don't see how Cornflakes just leaves that city open.  More likely we're going to need to go after the island city.

Silver Lining:  My culture is so big that all those coastal Cornflakes Cities are going to be swamped in my culture once Old Harry takes them.

And let's end with a shot of the main battlefield.

He has 30 siege and 56 hitters in his stack, while I have the 3 units on garrison in the city backed up by 17 siege and 74 hitters. A turn back are another 8 siege and 4 hitters.

No movement on the other fronts. His other big catapult stack is staying near his capital.

Turn 158

These turns are getting complicated. So I started simple:

The two cuirassiers at the ruins of Tetsudo moved up and pillaged a village down to a cottage. I had moved a bunch of units to the capital where they could hit the cuirassiers no matter where they moved, and from here went with a Pikeman (67.1%) for a win, and followed that up with a Spear (12.5%) who came really close to the upset, sending the last Formation Cuirassier to 4hp. Then I cleaned up with my own Cuirassier.

From here I decided I couldn't let Old Harry have all of Cornflakes, even with TBS breathing down my neck. I couldn't commit my 20-some mounted units to open a front on Cornflakes, but I could move by sea. Limited as it may be:

My CR2 Jaguar won a 45% fight to take the city without losses. I decided to hold it. 8 turns of anarchy is a lot, but it is a size 10 city. My culture already grabs the surrounding tiles from the cities in my core projecting culture, but Old Harry can easily take the city if he chooses to. I moved my two-movers and my catapults south to Handsome Dan, so things look like so:

I don't expect to have many more gains here, to be honest. But what I do plan on doing is upgrading my galleys to galleons, loading them up and taking the island city of Christstollen.

The other reason I don't have many options on the land is the forces I have in the area are needed in case TBS continues to move his troops northward:

I think they are just positioning farther north because he has sentry knights inside Old Harry's core - but I'll be watching if they continue northward.

What this also does is makes it impossible for me to pump out any quick settlers to try and grab land on the peripheries. It would be impossible to defend adjacent to TBS' territory like this.

Finally, I also moved a small stack against Cornflakes' northern holdings.

He could reinforce by moving out of Apple Crisp, but I know that Old Harry has had units near that city and I'm hoping that I'll be able to take Whipped Cream with just these units. The Cuirassiers I had to mop up the landing at Tetsudo were also moved this way, so I'll have a few more units in this area soon. But this is rather important for me to take because Whipped Cream will open up being able to pressure TBS by the sea.

We swapped units again at Charger Blue.

Astronomy finishes end of next turn. We're pumping out the navy in anticipation. Not any galleys/galleons yet, but privateers first to gain control of the waves. I need to make TBS defend everywhere.

I feel like I'm screwing this game up one turn at a time right now. Not unlike life, I suppose.
