[PB62] Tarkeel and civac feel the need for speed

Hey, good game! I figured I would stop by and hear your thoughts on how our early game went.

Were you researching archery at all?

I think the city you settled had two major problems. It did not provide you with a strategic resource to defend your self with and it was a weak city prior to border expansion. You second city cannot be this bad early on. It's required to feed the snowball. Eventually the city would have been strong but eventually is far too late.
You also pissed us off with the settlement. But that is a lesser issue. Had you had two axes or archers in the city we would have had no choice but to swallow it for the time being.

For general play, I think you needed a second worker earlier. Not sure exactly when. Admittedly, your start was not easy due to the necessity/utility of Animal Husbandry. Perhaps the start required a Hunting + Mining Civ. You could have settled the horses though.

Did you miss the road on your deer tile? It's customary to delete workers that can't be saved from capture.
Sorry for all the criticism but this was really badly played on your part. hammer Getting trounced in the first Pitboss is pretty normal though. Amicalola died to a war chariot rush in his first game and he recently won Pitboss 60 in dominating fashion. Good luck in the always war game.

Good points, thank you. I'll have a retrospective post up at some point and lay out things in more detail then.

Zandvoort is settled on the hill by the stone, and we're down to making 3 gpt at 0% science. This is going to hurt, but luckily we have some metals we can start working soon, and the workers will be laying down cottages.

@Fabled: While what civac says is correct, the main issue I had with your city was that it invalidated our claims to capital-adjacent cities. When placing border cities you should carefully consider what your opponent might do and might be willing to live with; that placement would mean a war at some point, and because we knew you wouldn't be able to defend it it was best to go for it early. If it had been one row further south we wouldn't seen it as necessary to invade.

Circuit Zandvoort hosted dates back to the end of WWII, and the first World Champion of Drivers race was in 1952, but was run (like the other european races that season) under the Formula 2 regulations. The track was back on the calendar for this season after a hiatus since 1985.

We dispatch the northern barbarians by slim margins; the warrior wins on defense with 25 hp (2 rounds) left, while our axe kills the spear before it can pillage the farm with only 2 hp left. After Silverstone whips out another worker with overflow (+chop) into granary, we're at +0 gpt.

Everything is lined up to attack next turn.

What's all in your attack stack?

The wine-tile (marked T48) has 2 workers and 4 axes, and there are two chariots in Spa and Monaco that will make it in time. One of the axes isn't fully healed yet though.

It's cut off in the picture, but SD's capital is still size 1. I expect it to grow before we arrive, but that will limit his ability to whip.

Our northern workers start laying down the first cottage the attack force has converged. Superdeath's capital is still size 1, so either he whipped at a very inopportune omoment, or he's had to whop it more than once. We declare war on SuperJowy:

Quote:I must regretfully inform you that we are now at war. We will be taking the second half.

The capital has a rather fresh spear with 5% fortify, but his worker has just completed chopping the forest we wanted to use as cover.

SD has managed to assemble two axes and a spear. (We already moved). Moreover, his city reaches 40% culture defense next turn so the attack is out.

We offered peace. If another axe finishes next turn he may be able to wipe out our expedition force. But that would be somewhat dangerous for him too. We'll see what he does.
