Ok. Should I plan on attacking TCD this turn?

I would focus on killing whatever ships you can (privateer fleet and lone frigate) and then move the rest to TCD. Keep a tile open so I can pillage the horses there next turn if my IFC in the lake survives (he should). If you don't feel safe enough attacking TCD, attack some of the land units guarding Russia's shores (especially the archer at KS). The more faith he spends on units at home, the fewer Cossacks he can buy at Asahi and the less likely he can save up to buy the next GA.

Turn 197-Vikings cont.
Over by Australia, I cam across 1 fleet privateer that I killed in the NW and my destroyer found some of his remaining ships...

As it ended up, I pillaged instead of killing ships. I started by pillaging the mine by KS for enough gold to buy a policy swap, then realized he could move a unit to the sugar plantation on his turn, so I pillaged that. Then, moving my destroyer west, I decided to pillage a lumbermill for more gold to buy a tile at Buyniy. I did kill the single privateer in the lake instead of pillaging the oil. I didn't see pillaging the oil for a couple turns and lose the ICF worth it. The ICF could leave the lake because of the privateer but he should survive the city attack plus the fleet privateer in the city and is on a fishing boats tile he can pillage for health before leaving to hit the pasture at TCH in a couple of turns. We need to decide if it is worth pillaging the canal as I leave to stop more ships from coming out of it or keep it around to see if we can pillage the oil and campus later.

Over by Japan...

I pillaged the theater square and hit the city. This will be Kaiser's last turn. I did hook up citrus at Cutter's Hollow and will fix another one next turn and send it your way.  Also, I will check if I am already sending you cotton or not and send the new source if I am not.

Back home. I take both cities and set up the best defense I could...

There is truffles at Asahi that I can pillage sometime over the next few turns to help speed up Totalitarianism. For my policy swap, I did drop Natural Philosophy so my science rate dropped a bit but there are lots of mines I can reach near Russia to speed up my tech research.

Edit: I also landed my berserker near the Australian city on the big island. I will move to the campus next turn and start working on the city. I should be able to pillage the campus and attack the city on the same turn. If I can take Japan's last city without the battleship next turn, it will start heading to the area and help the berserker take the Australian cities on that island. I also realized, that berserker can out run Australia's ships (7 MP versus 6 MP), fun little tidbit.

Edit2: If we can keep the Cossacks in the south, I should think about repairing my GP. He didn't pillage the actual district, just the Ancestral Hall and Grand Master's Chapel. They will take 1 and 2 turns, respectively, to repair. If I can pillage a few faith generating improvements (also cultural), I can get it repaired and buy a few units (probably berserkers with added +5CS) and help kill the remaining Cossacks.

Turn 198 - Phoenicia

Quick report today, for I have so much work that needs doing.

Killed the lone frigate and privateer fleet, as well as the archer. Trying to get that frigate fleet to come out of KS and trade with one of my injured single ships, but if it doesn't both those ships will promote. Got 2 trader pillages outside of the city defenses as well, and sent you all my ill-gotten gains.

Bad news though as roland reclaimed suzereignty of Valetta and got Renaissance Walls in TCD frown Nobody to blame but myself for allowing that one to happen, I could have dumped envoys in there last turn but just stupidly didn't consider that this might happen. This is going to be a long haul... I took a potshot with the Dreadnought and did all of 15 damage. Any fishing boats outside of a city range strike (I see one at Borodino) should definitely be saved for fixing my injured frigates. We are also going to need to block off the two tiles next to Borodino before I throw everything at TCD, as I can really not afford to lose any ships to city range strike + frigate attack if we want to actually take this city, which probably will require 2 of your melee ships. I would do it with my caravels but I strongly suspect they will die to Borodino's defenses + the frigate fleet. I will probably need them in the west to prevent the KS frigate fleet from intervening anyways...

What was that about the cream of the Phoenician navy burning in the harbor of Borodino? Dreams do come true...

edit: With your city captures, Asahi now flips in 6 turns...

edit2: As for the canal, I wonder what will happen if you pillage it with your IC on top. Hopefully not your ship getting trapped in the lake. One other reason to keep it around though (but with a ship one tile behind to contain the privateers) is that I wonder if we can get the overland traders as they step on the canal tile... mischief I wan't able to check this turn (one movement short on my closest caravel) but it seems plausible.

edit3: In my rush to not hold up the turn, I am ashamed to admit that I'm a fucking idiot and didn't consider that it might be useful to take Valetta suzereignty back anyways to block him from buying walls in more places, like omgduhobviously He Was My Brother. Fuck! I am so sorry and steaming mad at myself for this one.

Turn 198-Vikings
Here is Australia...

Here is by Asahi...

I lose 3 destroyers. My gut is telling me to hit is northern ships and see if I can reach his range ships but not sure if I have enough fire power. I can't really hit his southern ships because your ships block multiple attack vectors (which is good for defense, not so good on offensive). The ironclad and a destroyer will be ZOC'd at Izumrud but I can use everything else. I am going to have to think about this, it will be a while until I play.

Ouch, sadly, I did not consider that my ships would block yours from attacking in the south. I will think harder about that next turn, or you can just pin tiles for them to go to so this doesn't happen again frown

If you are able to kill the half-health destroyer 1W of Asahi you can un-ZoC all your units. Probably worth doing, especially since it is in range of the city strike and on low health anyways.

You may want to buy one or two tiles NE of Buyniy and Izumrud to extend the range of Their Finest Hour towards the northern ships. I like the idea of mostly attacking up there as you may be able to snipe a battleship and frigate fleet and hopefully finish off some destroyers in the yellow as well. It is a shame that your destroyers will mostly be out of TFH range with that plan but your battleships should mostly get the boost, especially if you buy tiles. Could be especially helpful for clearing out the injured destroyers in the north.

Australia is looking better than I feared though! If you can block the tile 1NE of Borodino with the destroyer it would be much appreciated, and I could then go for TCD in relative safety.

We are probably going to want to start thinking about re-massing our navy too while Thor works on the MP in case we are not able to destroy all his ranged firepower. Luckily in Fascism you will have a huge advantage over him in the speed at which you are able to do so.

edit: Another possible battle plan is to buy tiles and focus all your battleships on killing injured destroyers, which would possibly force him to spend a turn upgrading and would also give you a better chance of forming a defensive line in TFH range in the north.

It would take the ships that are ZOC stuck to kill the destroyer, so no point. I am thinking of bringing the ICF out of the city and upgrading it to help block the path north. Your ships are fine where they are, probably prevented him from attacking out of the city, and I actually will ask you to bring your frigate down to help block his southern fleet from coming north. It looks tough here but he did split his fleet and that will minimize what he can counterattack in the north on his turn.

Buying tile at Buyniy is possible but I can't buy any tiles north of Izumrud because the fish tile belongs to Buyniy and blocking tile purchases north of it and until the city is 100% loyal to me, I can't swap tiles.

I was thinking the same about building more ships. If the battle is a draw or we even hurt him enough to make it hard to continue with the offensive in the north, we might be able to pull of the win if we can beat him to nukes. If we continue to pressure his coast, e might even sail his main fleet back home to take care of our ships.

A couple of musings. Here is my core and how the Russia Cossacks are situated...

A couple of things in that screenshot. My field cannon ran across a privateer by Loki. I bet this is one of the two by Oracle Bones a few turns ago. I might send my ironclad to look between Geneva and  Freyr to look for the other one. That would be my best guess where another one might be hiding. Probably looling to pillage my shipyards and IZs.

The other interesting thing here is the combat odds against my single berserker against his injured corps Cossack. My battleship can kill the redlined Cossack behind it and once I kill Japan I could get my General over to Thor and probably get odds that favor me...one a single berserker how in all rights, should be obsolete. Those things are deadly...but he will probably die on the counter attack because they do suck on the defensive. He did pillage both my oils but I am hooking another source up near Japan.

Speaking of Japan...

They are no more. Good game Kaiser!

Re zerks: the one by Loki can't hit any of the redlined Cossacks nearby, right? Being in Logistics is probably going to let me snipe one this turn, bet he was not counting on that given his positioning smile

Agreed that the battle in the north is looking tough, but if we can kill a few ships this turn maybe he will pause to upgrade. Worst-case we can do a bit of damage and if you don't have enough destroyers for a shield next turn, we can save the battleships and try again once we have more ships and Fascism (maybe in conjunction with nukes). And it is nice that we have cleared out his conquests in Phoenicia, which he will have to spend some time retaking if he still wants to go for Cuneiform.

You have 1.5 times his city count now and we have his main production centers under the guns of our fleet. It should be doable for you to outmass him in Fascism, as long as we keep our units together and prevent him from building up ships in his core again.

GG Kaiser!

Get this, TFH is bugged. I am not getting the bonus if I am attacking a unit outside my territory from inside it but do get it if I am attacking next to my territory (targeting the same unit).

Here is the battleship at Thor attacking a unit outside my territory...

Even though I am inside my territory. But if I attack the one next to him inside my borders...

I am getting the bonus. Now for the stupidity of this game. Here I am targeting from within my territory...

Not getting the bonus but if I move the battleship out of the borders...

Now, I am getting it. WTF Firaxis, how about some consistency?
