Who's up for it?
EitB (Erebus in the Balance) is a modmod of the all beloved Fall from Heaven 2 mod of Civ4, developed on RB for use in multiplayer games. FFH is Civ with elves, dwarves, magic.... if you hold on until the end there might even be dragons, or
Game mode is PBEM. I would hope we get together 5 players, but at this point that would require more than the usual suspects. So newbies feel welcome! The last game that was played was my first one, and I greatly enjoyed it, and only got mackoti'd in the end like everyone else. It's definitely possible to join without having played in a game before and have a great experience.

I would love to join someone's team as a junior partner or dedlurker if they'd have me. I don't feel up to a full individual commitment to something so new and possibly overwhelming with other games in the works.

I am in a pretty similar situation to Ginger, actually. If this gets off the ground I'll dedlurk someone.

I'll play, and I'd be happy to have a dedlurker.

Happy to put together a map, if you get to that stage.

Miguelito poked me on PM to ask me to join. I said in my last PBEM game that I am done with multiplayer, and I'm sticking to that. I don't like what these games do to me psychologically, and I'm too old to be losing sleep over a computer game.

Is there a good reference resource or wiki for FFH/EitB? I've been trying it out in singleplayer, but the mechanics just seem so arcane
For example, there's these dungeons or ruins that spawn barbs and I have no idea how to investigate/clear them.

There is a wiki, https://fallfromheaven.fandom.com/wiki/Main_Page, but it's not always accurate, and of course doesn't include any of the changes from EitB. You can read the changelogs for EitB here, and also try reading through some of the old threads on here from previous games.
To answer your question, units need to be of a high-enough level to explore a dungeon (I can't remember exactly what level right now), and they need to be standing alone on the dungeon.
If you have the time you could always start a thread about your game and post screenshots and ask questions and I'll be happy to answer them if I can, and I'm sure others will too.

To follow up on what Cairo's said, I'd recommend reading any of FFH PBEM 1, since, as the first FFH game played here, people were pretty explanatory. Most pictures are dead, however.
When I started out, I used this manual, which is a little outdated even for vanilla FFH, but it gives decent summaries of each faction.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.

Okay, thank you both for the links, they've been very helpful!
Also, Cairo, I'll happily dedlurk you this game.
As for my singleplayer test drive, it was too short and disinteresting to merit a thread of its own, but for tl:dr I played Luchuirp and had a fun little time with their fast workers, a 7-engineer world spell, and Arete MFG.
