[PB64] Amicalola Gets To Heaven with Tarkeel and Ljubljana

Turn -1: Amica Is Losing It Already
I can't figure out a good way to play this start. The best one I've come up with has our second city founded on T42, and that assumes we can found 2N of the fish (sharing) with a 2nd food resource somewhere in the fog. Which is probably not very likely. And even if it's correct, a T42 found with PRO is terrible!! Maybe we can build a settler before the 2nd worker, but then we don't have enough tiles to work. We would have two workers, which is pretty huge with 8 forests to chop. I am currently trying to decide if fitting in AH before Wheel->Pottery is worth doing, it feels like it should be but it's hard to say for sure. Probably depends on if we can get trade wth our second city without roads. Again, these starting techs are deceptively terrible. Ah well, at least EXP should keep us afloat. Will think about it for a few more hours and then play the turn to get the game rolling.
"Losing It Already"? sounds like it's time for some Positive Reinforcement!
regardless of if you SIP or move we will all still think you're super cool and good at Civ! surely everyone else has starts that are equally weird and slow given the randomness inherent to the setup! and even if that's not true, this is ostensibly a casual game anyways, so please don't stress yourself out too much!! i literally stepped away from a concert just to check in on how your civ turn is going, so please know that at least one (admittedly weird) internet stranger appreciates the care and effort you put into your reporting Situation on T1 with my accidental move. No new tiles revealed compared to what I already knew (see earlier pictures for comparison). May I please reload to my login on T0? Will do a proper turn report and reply to lurker comments later today, regardless of answer.
T0 Redux - We're Off!
There are a few candidates, but Warm Healer is probably my favourite Everything Everything song. (April 27th, 2022, 01:42)Tarkeel Wrote: Here's a batshit crazy idea that occured to me. That plainshill 3S2E of our start would be a decent capital if it has some more food. It's possible to move the settler SE to where the scout is this turn, then next turn the scout can go SE-S or SE-SE to check for food. If it finds something the settler can follow; if it doesn't it can go back and settle in place a turn delayed. This was a little too fast, too furious for me, so we settle Warm Healer in place. We're working the forested hill into a work boat for the fish. The scout revealed nothing exciting food-wise, but the gold will be nice eventually. I think we probably want to move onto it next turn, on the off-chance there's food nearby to the south. I moved onto the current tile instead of 1E because I wanted to be able to 2-move next turn if necessary, as we want to find some huts if possible; maybe those are the solution to our techs! Oh man, thinking about it, huts have the chance to completely bork this game before it really gets going - probably a good thing we're going casual here. The alternative to SIP was to move 1S and tech Animal Husbandry first, but then our workers had very little to do as we lost 5/8 forests, and only gained a plains hill sheep. We also couldn't tech BW in time to do anything useful with the worker after improving the sheep, and there were A LOT of wasted worker turns. It was better in that we keep more forests for things later on, and that we only need one food tech straight away, but worse in that it was slow. With EXP/PRO Mao, I don't think we can afford to be slow. Instead, us Persians will Reject Animals and Embrace the Lumberjack Lifestyle. I do worry that I'm cheating us by not going AH early and looking for an immortal rush, but to be honest I don't think it's worth the setback to our development. But maybe we try to slot AH in sooner, like after BW. (April 27th, 2022, 08:15)DaveV Wrote:I can try to remember that.(April 27th, 2022, 08:06)Tarkeel Wrote: ... Commode ... moved. It actually did cheer me up some. It's been a wild couple of days in real life, which probably contributed to the stress. We are calm again now, if vaguely frustrated at our starting techs. What band/artist's concert were you at? (April 28th, 2022, 00:23)Amicalola Wrote: Hah, thanks Ljubljana, that was very sweet of you to step out and write that. It actually did cheer me up some. What band/artist's concert were you at? parquet courts! at the beautiful fox theater in oakland, ca here are some grainy pictures i managed to smuggle out from deep within the mosh pit..... if it would help to talk or vent about personal stuff here, please feel free to do so! as your self-appointed chief commissar of morale, i am always down to listen
T1-3: Huts
We found a hut! It gave us... A map. And uh, I have resource bubbles turned on.... This map sure ain't lush! Ginger's hut, meanwhile, did not give a map. I'm pretty sure that has to be a tech. I wonder what they got.... I am unsure whether we want to send the scout West, South or East. North can be done by the warrior when he comes out before the settler. Charriu can I ask a mechanics question: do hut maps specifically keep food resource/other hut tiles blank? And I thought the techs were the silver lining before, too. Persia is irredeemable, I tell you, irredeemable! Neat! I've heard about them playing here before, but I've never really listened to their stuff. Are there any particular albums you'd recommend? Hah, yeah personal life is annoying like that. I hope you fixed the housing situation! Thanks for the offer - it mostly boils down to my university screwing me over and forcing me to scramble and find my own placement (after 3 months telling us not to). For some reason the automated system was unable to find me one out of the 500-ish people in my course, despite my living in the middle of the city. It's really weird, even they remarked on it. My course would not function without a placement, so it was a pretty stressful situation! Luckily, I've found something that looks vaguely promising now.
I have to check about huts preventing resources to spawn on their tile.

Oops, I didn't phrase my question very well. What I meant was: When you get a map from a hut, what determines the tiles that stay unrevealed within the otherwise-revealed area? Are those tiles more likely to be food resources/other huts/etc, or are they identical and it's just random chance? |
