building an online updated damage calculator

Hi Seravy,

I am considering building a new, updated COM damage calculator, but I will need you to answer all the small details questions about variations and small details,
if I will write it, will you answer my questions about the implementation?

Thanks.

Yes, I can do that. Keep the questions in this thread so I don't forget the answer needs to be accurate.

Ok, first question please,

Multiple figure defending - according to the original manual, section "Melee Combat Example", we get the following text:

"... Since each elven lord figure only has three hits (i.e., three heart symbols
on its statistics), it is killed and the two remaining hits are applied
against the next elven lord figure. That figure gets to use its full
complement of shield icons, making four rolls against the same 30%
chance to stop a hit. ..."

So according to this manual, when a successful 5 hits are applied to multi figure, once a figure took full damage and was annihilated, the next figure makes another defense roll?
or is there a single defense roll per the entire collection of figures?

Multiple figure attacking - looking at a simple scenario, from the perspective of the defender, is the attack of a multi figure unit same as the sum of attacks of it's figure? that is: is damage done by 1 unit 2 figures 6 attack same as 1 unit 1 figure 12 attack?

Each figure makes a defense roll separately, yes.

No, a separate defense roll is made for each each attacking figure.

"No, a separate defense roll is made for each each attacking figure."

You mean "a separate attack roll for each attacking figure"?
and the defender makes a separate defense roll for each of these attacks? I don't understand.

Yes, exactly.

Ok, NP,
but you are aware that this is different from what is written in the example in the original manual?

"...Before applying these devastating results to the elven lords,
however, the computer lets them swing back at the basilisk. Each elven
lord has an attack strength (number of sword icons) of six (five for their
starting value, +1 for their troop status of “regulars”). Thus, the three
figures in the elven lords unit throw a total of 18 attack rolls to score
hits on the basilisk. Like all units, elven lords have a base chance to hit
with each attack roll of 30%, but elven lords have a special ability, giving
them a +2 bonus to hit. This increases their chance to hit by 20% (+10%
per bonus point), giving each of their 18 attack rolls a modified chance
to hit of 50%.
The results for the elven lords are lucky, and they land 13 hits on
the basilisk. For its part, the basilisk has a defense strength (shields) of
four. However, since the elven lords also have the special ability of
armor piercing, creatures trying to block their hits can only use half of
their shields (rounded down). Thus, the basilisk makes its measly two..."

They write that they make a single role for the sum of attack of the figures and then make a single defense roll for it.

The manual and "official" strategy guide are full of mistakes and inaccuracies.

Use the wiki, it has more accurate information (at least for the base game, but most game mechanics are the same in CoM for Windows).

It actually says at the bottom of the page that the official manual was wrong.

Hi,

I am using this probability calculator to test my calculator:
https://masterofmagic.fandom.com/wiki/Ad...Calculator

and I found the following issue, assume:
1 attacking figure, 2 attack, 2 defending figures, 1 defense, to hit: 30% to defend 30%, 2 hit points per figure and the defender took 1 hit, so over all the defending stack has 3 hit points.
the only scenario where the defender takes 2 hits is when the attacker made 2 successful hits and both first and second defender failed their single defense roll.
so the probability of such event should be:
2 successful hits: 9%
first failed defense: 70%
second failed defense: 70%

= 0.09*0.7*0.7 = 0.0441
that is: 4.41%

but the online calculator gives 6.3%.

is there anything I am missing? or does this online simulator has bugs?

if it is buggy, can you please write a online damage calculator without bugs so I can compare to it?

j/k ofc wink

This online calculator stopped working yesterday, but I hope to publish an initial version of my online calculator in the next few days, that for the time being could be used as replacement...
