Commodore met us today:
His warrior is wounded, so I'm not worried. I moved my zone defense warrior into Pigpen so he wouldn't get tempted, but I don't see him rolling the small injury dice.
I've already said that I've royally screwed up my start, so the less said about it the better.
Here's the world at large:
Finally found Ginger to my Northwest. This land is interesting. My immediate surroundings are greener but more narrow and jungled. Gav and Ginger have more land immediately available but it's not as fertile. Interesting. I assume Commodore is somewhere to the east of my jungle.

Welcome to the Turn 50 Overview! We played turn 0 on April 25. We've done 50 turns in a month. That's just amazing.
Here is the current territory of the Cipherian Conglomerate:
I've already talked about my screwed up development. I could be up +4 or +5 food if I settled Pigpen for its own food resource, either the wheat in the north or the corn offscreen to the south. We've got 2 cities with 6 pop, 2 workers, and 2 warriors. I also built a cottage but this was almost certainly wrong. I should've built 2 mines to hurry up my upcoming settler.
The capital grows next turn and starts this settler, which'll take 5 long turns. I'm tempted to take Pigpen's pig back to speed the settler. Probably will do that. The land around me is excellent (and probably better than my neighbors?), so I need to expand ASAP.
You can see me researching Polytheism. Ginger got Mysticism a few turns ago. For this game, I'm trying something unusual. I've never played Fin/Org, so I'm experimenting with putting off Currency for a bit, since I figure I'll have plenty of money anyway. Instead, I'm trying to grab a religion, since I need to go down this line for Ziggurats anyway. I'll then go to Sailing for Org Lighthouses and then finally Writing. Unlike in other games, I'm not valuing Scientist (or other) Great People, since I'm betting that working a specialist is a lot worse than working a Fin tile. I'll be annoyed but unsurprised if I don't get Hinduism. I needed a lot of tech I didn't have, specifically Animal Husbandry and Fishing. On the other hand, I picked up some 120 gold from huts, so I've got a bit of a bankroll to spend on frivolous research.
Before I talk about neighbors generally, here's my scout:
I think I trespass against Ginger next turn and move to the tile 1E of his mine. He's a big boy; he should take it in stride, and I want to get vision on his cap.
I met Amicalola this turn, but don't know where, which is a little scary.
Amica has significant EP spending against Gavagai and a little spent against Ginger. He doesn't know Commodore, which is interesting since Comm and Gav have also known each other for a few turns. Oh, I guess I should mention on the subject of trespass, Ginger war-peaced Gav a little while ago, so he knows the nature of the game.
My demos are middling to poor.
They would be a lot better with either +4f/1h or +5f from found anywhere but where I did. As I said, I'm annoyed with myself, but I just have to trust that Darius of Sumeria can catch up in the long run.

Colors are my nemesis. (And you can see in the previous couple screenshots I had labeled this territory as Ginger's.)
Of course, this is Amica:
Gah! I also should've waited until after he played to declare war. I thought it wouldn't matter, but it's possible that he was moving a warrior to whack the scout. I've offered him a peace treaty, but if he wants, he's entitled to a reload.
Why am I playing like garbage this game?

I've sent Amica a PM, but it's likely he's already asleep. I don't think the double move impacts him, but it was still a boneheaded thing to do, even if I did think it was Ginger. (I was second-last to play after Commodore.) Sorry all.

I get it. When you don't consider a war a real war, you tend to forget the turn order. Edit: see me forgetting turn order vs GKC PB60 because what I considered my actual war was vs SD at the time.
YOU KNOW, there is a sequential game starting up

This game already feels like 2 with the turn pace!
Another day, another just absolutely idiotic mistake by me:
I loaded up the turn ready to whip a settler. After all, I made sure to give the Pig tile back to city #2, since I would get exactly 30 hammers at the capital this turn. That meant I'd have just enough to whip the settler, since a 2 pop whip is 60 hammers and 30+60=100. It does not. And I am just crushingly stupid. Oh well. It just means we're going to be so far behind everybody I'll get to practice some underdog defending later.
By the way, what's going on here?
I'm not sure I've ever seen this. Is that barb spear guarding the village?

Yes. Yes it is. Evidently this is known behavior we don't get to see a lot / brains have forgotten.

Long time, no chat.
I call this pic Frustration:
I've got enough units to screen off simultaneous barbs from the North and South, but because the spear is the northern barb rather than the southern one, I have to delay founding my fourth city by at least two turns. God, that's annoying.
I haven't been doing much, so there hasn't been much to report. I whipped the capital which pushes my Monotheism time back to 4 turns, but nobody should be contesting it. Someone has Priesthood, so I expect Oracle to fall any second now.
I figured I had to beakers to burn on Monotheism becuase Fin/Org isn't in as big a rush for Writing->Math->Currency. We'll see if that's right.
(Man that barb timing is obnoxious.)

BARBS!
I rolled the turn today, so I got a double helping. A second spear appeared in the south, which means I now need to one-whip a vulture. As an added thorn in my side, the southern barb warrior didn't suicide against the city, so I had to use a chariot to kill him, which meant the chariot couldn't run back north to garrison the capital, so in turn, the capital is now unhappy:
The danger should be averted for now. We're just falling miserably far behind on development.
In the wider world, Gavagai has tons of military. I haven't done any cloak & dagger. I should stop being lazy and figure out what he's doing. It would be scary if he and I weren't so far away. Both Ginger and Amica have gold tiles (Ginger's I can see on the trade screen; Amica's I saw with my scout), so they'll be keeping pace with my Financial economy, which is a bummer. Ginger especially is dominant in every damn category. Partly this is a hut tech, but I worry he's going to parley that into a wonder (my bet's on the Great Lighthouse) and just keep running away. Oh well, that's a problem for his neighbors, of whom I am not.
As you can see, I've got at worst coin-flip odds at landing Monotheism which should appear in one of my border cities and give me some much needed fogbusting.
