As you can see from PBSpy, I was able to log into the game earlier. The only kink is that upon connecting to the game, before selecting a civ, I am given the error message "Version Mismatch. Warning: The version of our game files do not match our host's." Does anyone know what that is about? I think I can just ignore it and log in anyway for now.
Unless that error message is more troublesome than I think, then I am now ready to take over for Mr. Cairo. However, I think my very first turn at this late and complex stage of the game will take me a few hours to complete, and I will not have that block of time available for about 18 more hours now. Mr. Cairo will need to play one more turn to avoid a delay, then I can start playing the turns and we can move on.

I get that error all the time because I use Steam download with the zulan .exe, if it lets you log in and move stuff around then you’re good to go.
