I'm doubly against score games if it keeps me from actually looking at civ4 screenshots
You can make them as part of a post, but two only score screenshots in quick succession. I REBUKE YOU VILE ONE! It's just not the right time for it yet. But rest assured, plans do be brewing.
T69-73: Barbs!!!
This isn't the post I wanted to make next. I've been really careful fogbusting the south, but I haven't looked East yet. And this barbarian spearman is the MVP of the enemy players. It's rocked up such that Distant Past needs to whip an axe next turn (when it's at 2 turns left on production). The city that we really don't want to whip prematurely. In other words, this stops us working the gold for about 4 turns, and delays a couple of other things that relied on Mathematics timing. Not only that, the axe only has 90% to win against a spear on a hill, which means we could just lose the combat and have our city captured (if the spear moves to the gold and we have to dislodge). The worst part of all of this? The spear effectively 'leapfrogged' 2 tiles to get here. You can tell because the one on the hut isn't fortified anymore - a new spear moved onto the hut, and the hut one then moved on the same turn. If the mechanic worked the other way around (the hut spear just always staying on it), none of it would be necessary because the axe would finish naturally. ARGH!! The Question: If we whip next turn (much less disastrous for micro), our axe will still finish in time to defend, right?
Production should happen before barbs move IIRC, but you shoulf test it in sandbox to make sure.

Isn't this one of the areas where pitboss is vaguely different? I think that in pitboss, barbs move at the very start, so you would still get your production before they move again, while in single player they move at the end of the turn, but your production is still processed before they move. So same net effect but different ordering, so barbs will start appearing one turn earlier in pitboss, etc.
Tarkeel is right

Participated in: Pitboss 40 (lurked by Mr. Cairo), Pitboss 45 (lurked by Charriu and chumchu), Pitboss 63 (replaced Mr. Cairo), Pitboss 66, Pitboss 69, Pitboss 74
Participating in: Pitboss 78 (lurked by GT), Pitboss 79 (lurking giraflorens) Criticism welcome!
Thankyou for the answers, Hitru/Charriu/Tarkeel, they're appreciated. You were all right about the build timing, and the spear suicided into the axe rather than make trouble. So it's setback, but not a disaster. Whew.

We've been frequently playing with a setting called 'no score' recently, which does exactly what it says on the tin. This is my first game with score on in a long time, so it feels like quite the novelty (hence the screenshots). I think there are pros and cons to both, and lean back-and-forth on whether I prefer score on or off. I mostly think it depends on which part of the game you're in - this part of the game, I think having score on is much more interesting. I'll let Mjmd answer your question in more detail, though - I'm also curious to see his thoughts.(June 7th, 2022, 22:45)Mjmd Wrote: I'm doubly against score games if it keeps me from actually looking at civ4 screenshots Stay tuned for T76, where I will announce a variant rule I've decided to run for PB64.
