Most impressive heroes...

I recently had a game where I think I got my most impressive hero ever and it wasn't even a Champion.

This was Fang and actually what was really good was I had a combo of Fang and Shin Bo, both with excellent items.

I was playing Life and Chaos (2 Chaos books for Hell Hounds to start), but I went on a crusade busting encounters in Myrror and got some really good loot.

I had Fang with Super Might and Luck. I'd rather have had Constitution or Agility than Super Might, but hey. On Fang I had the Helm of Trollish Might (Has Regeneration and +3 attack and other stuff), and I think it's the first time I ever got that. He also had a Plate Mail with Magic Immunity and a Sword with a bunch of attack (had Flaming) and +hit. Fang had 7 Movement.

Shin Bo had a Shield with Wraith Form and some powerful weapon, a Mace I think, with Haste on it and some ring with True Sight and other attack and movement, etc. He had 5 movement but due to Haste and Wraithform he could move double on the map and in combat, so really 10 movement, but I kept with paired with Fang much of the time.

I ended up just basically stopping all my other stacks and doing everything with these two for the heck of it. I also had Warlord and cast Crusade.

I had other good heroes too, but these two were over the top. If Fang ever did get in trouble or die invisible Shin Bo would be able to win it, but I also had Resurrection and Raise Dead anyway.

I've had really powerful Champions of course and basically un-killable heroes with Runemaster + Artificer, but I think this might have been the most powerful straight up heroes I've gotten with all just treasure gear and not counting Champions. I did switch their armor for a bit when I went against Freya to prevent her from Webbing Fang, and she couldn't see Shino Bo so she never Webbed him anyway.

Oh, and how I ended up getting so much insane loot was I had two stacks that took all the most powerful encounters. I took one that had I think 8 Sky Drakes and a Storm Giant and several with multiple Great Worms and such. All were taken with either a stack of Adamantium Slingers with Lionheart and Flame Blade or Adamantium Berserkers with Lionheart and Flame Blade (not ever single unit, just usually 2 or 3 with the buffs). I think the big Sky Drake node was done using the Berserkers. After doing like 4 or 5 such encounters back to back I had insane loot, including many of these items.

What crazy heroes have you had?

For my money, the strongest heroes are the ones with first strike type abilities. That includes Roland, Mortu, Shalla (thrown), Fang (fire breath), and even Gunther (thrown). You boost their attacks enough and give them enough movement and they'll one-hit everything without ever being counterattacked. Berserk greatly improves this strategy if you happen to be playing Death. You'll also probably want Magic Immunity/Invisibility to avoid being picked off with spells by enemy wizards.

Hi rpg,

I just stumbled upon your question. Fang ist definitely one of the strongest heroes, because of his three fighter picks, natural flying (also meaning three base movement points) and firebreathing ability and so on. I usually combine one or two strong melee heroes (Fang, Shalla, Baghtru, Roland, Mortu or Torin depending on my school of magic) with a couple of archers (Shurri, Alorra or Marcus) and spellcasters (Malleus, Yramrag/Serena/etc. if they come with arcane power or the Priest/Necromant/Chaos Warrior/Mystic X). I tend to end up with 1 - 3 superfast and buffed Hero Stacks allowing me to control both planes and make the late game suffering (millions of units and towns and enoying enemies) more bearable.

You may have a look on my youtube LPs were I maxed out a lot of heroes in four playlists / games:

just search for my username 0namelessone0 and master of magic...

Enjoy!

As a combat unit, the Amazon often outshines champions - her combat abilities are decent enough and thrown doubles the effect of some items and enchantments.
For overall usefulness, the Wind Mage is often the star of my games because of the overland mobility he offers.

True@Amazon - the Throwing Axe Ability is very strong and also helps the rather weak Orc Warrior.

I disagree on the Wind Mage - I thought as you in the past, but depending on your colours of magic, a strongly buffed stack moves faster without him and he's pretty weak in combat IMHO...

For me it's usually the first one I've been offered (I hire all). They have the most xp and I give them the best items. True sometimes later heroes who tend to be from a higher niveau might surpass the first one but that hardly matters.
