Turn 23: have researched Animal Husbandry and Polytheism, which was a bit greedy, need to go for bronze working next - or possibly the Wheel for chariots.

Just to make sure I got a religion, since IIRC there are several mysticism civs in this one. Research will be tight now because of it and it was probably a bad choice tho

Rephrased; do you have any concrete plans for your own religion, or is it just nice to have?

It's basically because I don't have cre/cha traits so it's nice to have another source of happiness and culture. But I gather from your questions that it wasn't the best move...

I think dropping religion in a second city to claim land is a great play, the problem is that the culture is not particularly useful in the capital, and random spreads are unreliable. Also the happiness from religion isn’t really a factor without Spiritual—the anarchy turn or the temples are just too expensive for the ROI.
For extra happiness, either a Momarchy or Calendar beeline works best.

An early religion can become powerful later on, but it does have an opportunity cost in what else you research. As Ginger says, it's much more powerful in another city than the capital. Back in PB62 we originally had lined up the possibility of founding a religion in the second city the turn it was founded, but had to re-order our priorities for war instead. A pink-dot holy city in a hill can be quite the bastion, but you also have to dedicate resources to defending it.

I appreciate the video update! What a novel idea! Probably less hassle for you too than messing with a bunch of screenshots, image hosting, etc.
