[Sucksatciv] First time playing Pitboss

https://i.imgur.com/CGq8HX7.jpg This is how the game is going, hopefully you can see the attachment. I guess I'll tell how its going myself in case it doesn't work, so I need to defend the capital, I don't know if there is a no attacking someone early rule but I should still keep the capital with at least one defender. I Switched the tiles my capital was working but forgot to switch them to working the sheep pasture when it was finished so the second worker came out a turn late. Please help and tell me where you think that I should put my next city. I think settling on the x to the west would be a good idea since I can get it to grow by working the capital's sheep while the wheat is improved. I've heard that I need to make more settlers here so I will try my best to REX everything around me.

Oop, I thought I'd replied to this earlier. Your second city suggestion sounds like a strong one, no issue there. smile

So, here's the way things are going in the game right now, Cornflakes is about to declare war on me and has a stack with axes and a chariot so I'm going to get an army together, I have seven cities so things shouldn't be too bad, but I'm going to stop making more settlers and put together an army to defend and devote my resources to that. I am going to lose Varanasi to Cornflakes, but hopefully I can defend Bombay and Agra and then make peace. I'm not really sure what else to do or how my economy is going to recover here, maybe I built too many cities, but I wanted to claim as much land as possible. In regards to economic management my workers have improved resources, but I'm behind in connecting my cities, chopping forests and building cottages. Sorry for not keeping you posted especially Amicalola, I've been busier IRL and was focusing more on singleplayer/ other games in my spare time and haven't been on Realmsbeyond for quite awhile, though I have been doing my turns in the pitboss.

Something interesting that happened earlier is that my scout got trapped by CornFlakes' culture which is a pretty big side note when I might die but still a little noteworthy.

Cornflakes was content to just take Varanasi for peace, I think its time for me to raise an army anyways though.

Don't let this rub you the wrong way, but I think it's time for you to build some roads smile. Do you know how the trade route system in civ 4 works? Those are quite important, especially early on.

I thought you might have left RB altogether and started lurking other threads after a while. Great news that you aren't about to die. smile I would second Miguelito about the roads though, that's 6 commerce per turn lost already.

I keep forgetting to check Realmsbeyond, on my next turn I'll prioritize getting roads to connect all my cities. I think I play too much singleplayer and that leads me to not spend enough time on my turns in Pitboss.

After playing my turn, I have a feeling that India is just dead, I don't think that Cornflakes has more units than me but I'm sure he has a much better transportation, so he'll be able to stack all his units up and then conquer along a line of operations leading to my capital. I whipped two axes and have a hill defense bonus at Bombay so I don't think that I'll die immediately. My biggest concern is that my tech pace is really bad, so he or Superdeath will likely get horse archers or catapults and that could give them the advantage they need to finish me off. The biggest thing I can learn from this game is to connect my cities with roads, another lesson is that early production is less important than early food, transportation, and commerce, I built four mines but they ended up being used to make archers that will arrive at the front too late.

After looking at the game for a little bit, I think turtling is a viable option, so I'm gonna change my research to masonry so that I can get walls to defend myself. Maybe I could also consider getting failgold from Great Wall and Pyramids, I should have gone Masonry from the beginning instead of wasting almost fifty beakers on writing. Writing is nice to go for in singleplayer and would have been nice to go for here if I hadn't been pressured, but thats a real luxury in an MP game that I should not have relied on.
