The song

Music: RebeccaETripp - Final Fantasy IV 'Empress Waltz' OC ReMix

Remember Rebecca from T17. Back then I posted her very first contribution to OC ReMix and here we have her 70th OC ReMix song from 2022. I told you she has a great output.

As always Rebecca shows a great talent in weaving together melodies from six different games (Super Mario Galaxy, FF4, FF7, Zelda, FF9 and FF6). This time the transitions are a bit more obvious, but still very well done. Starting of with one of the best songs from Mario Galaxy 'Rosalina's Observatory'. The addition of a little choir fits perfectly. From the outer space we drop down to the earthy 'Troian Beauty' from FF4. Once again adding some beautiful small additions like using the woods at 2:13. Also very nice to hear this song from FF4 which isn't played as often as others. Like for example the following 'Flowers Blooming in the Church' from FF7. Once again using the wood instruments for this part is an excellent decision as is the addition of the harp in the background.
We smoothly transition into another famous melody: 'Zelda's Lullaby'. But we only stay here a short moment making this feel more like a transition, when we go to FF9's 'Garnet's Theme'. I love what the strings are doing in the background preparing a comforting sound bed. We finish this beautiful medley with the 'Wedding Waltz' from FF6's opera which probably is the inspiration for the title of this piece. Once again listen to what the strings are doing in the background. All around beautfiul additions to the original melody.

Once again this piece is from OC ReMix so feel free to download it and listen to it whenever you are up to it.

T34:

An important turn as this turn we discovered Bronze Working and we are very lucky that we already have copper in our border near Kondo making it an even better production city.

As you can see I stitched together Tarkeel's and mine map. I fear that he may be even more envious towards my lands. The land bridge down south looks like it continues in a winding pattern. Don't know where too, but we will find out. Time to do dotmapping now. smile

I'm in the process of dotmapping the area. Fortunately I don't have to be in a rush. The land down south looks to be like a lot of safe area for me, which I can dotmap later. So I'm focusing more on the north, where I will soon have borders with Tarkeel and Mjmd.

My thought process started from the land bridge. I see two city spots there red and pink. Both of them on hills for obvious defensive purposes as they will be the border city towards Mjmd. Here are my thoughts about each one:

Red:
Pro:

- Gives the enemies no hills to station nearby the city except 1S aka better defense.
- Gets the mountain into the second ring for better visibility
- May even control the hill S of the lake denying Mjmd a good border city
- Gives direct access to the Mediterranean sea and acts as a canal city
Con:
- Weaker city economy wise
- May lead to more border tension with Mjmd if he establishs a border city on the hill 1S of the lake.
- Only has one food resource: cow

Pink:
Pro:

- Is closer to the capitol (maintenance)
- Better city economy wise
- May lead to less tension towards Mjmd from culture overlap.
- Has two food resource: cow and rice also one more hill
Con:
- Gives the enemies a hill to station nearby the city.
- No direct access to the Mediterranean sea only via a canal 1NW or 1NE of it. That may be a point to keep in mind for diplo with Tarkeel

Right now I'm tending towards the pink dot as I do want a border city that can actually do stuff.

For the rest you see 4 dots and one of them will likely be my third city. I don't think settling in any other direction right now is the right call as I need to get to the border spot sooner then later. You see that Miguelito also put down a sign on the dye for a potential city, but I think with the new discoveries this city spot is worse compared to the others. Here my thoughts for each spot:

Yellow:
Pro:

- Direct trade connection with the capitol
- Can help the capitol grow 5 cottages over time
- Shares the sugar with the capitol.
- Hopes that iron may pop up in its BFC
Con:
- Only has one food resource of its own: rice
- Weakest commerce output longterm when capitol gobbles up all tiles.
- Makes settling a city using the banana way harder
- Also somehow would need to get a city use the dye
- Destroys a forest

Green:
Pro:

- Can help the capitol grow 2 cottages over time
- Has two food resources: rice and banana
- Also connects the oasis denying Tarkeel any crazy city spot in the desert, which I doubt he will do anyway.
- Almost best commerce output longterm when capitol gobbles up all tiles
- With just the basic food can work 4 specialists
- Has a hill for some hammers
- Spreads enough culture over the desert to make any naval landings by Tarkeel harder
Con:
- No direct trade connection with capitol
- Shares no food with the capitol.

Blue:
Pro:

- Can help the capitol grow 1 cottages over time
- Has two food resources: rice and banana
- Also connects the oasis denying Tarkeel any crazy city spot in the desert, which I doubt he will do anyway.
- Best commerce output longterm when capitol gobbles up all tiles
- With just the basic food can work 3 specialists
- Option to connect cows before border city is planted.
- Removes a jungle sooner
- Spreads enough culture over the desert to make any naval landings by Tarkeel harder
Con:
- No direct trade connection with capitol
- Shares no food with the capitol.

Orange:
Pro:

- Can help the capitol grow 2 cottages over time
- Has two food resources: rice and banana
- 3rd best commerce output longterm when capitol gobbles up all tiles
- With just the basic food can work 4 specialists
- Shares two food resource with the capitol: sugar and rice
Con:
- No direct trade connection with capitol
- Destroys a forest

I'm torn between Orange and Blue right now with a slight tendency towards blue.

Is this a cylinder or toroid? If the latter, the southern landbridge would make more sense wouldn't it? Also interested in whether west Africa connects to a western continent.

Toroid. West Africa will be uncovered by the next scout.

I think I like pink better than red. Closer to cap is also important for defence. PH would be nice, but that city has literally no good tiles after the first - is N of rice lake or sea though? If lake red is pretty good.
Why did you rule out settling on dyes? I still like it best, among others because it prepares the Mjmd border plant nicely, improving the cow in advance.
Next up for me would be orange. Both of these have up to 13 food surplus before grassland farms. Caste GA / ME monsters. Orange doesn't point in the right direction quite like dye does, but otoh it also splits off the sugar from our overfed capital, and shares more cottages, so might even be better. Could we chop the forest before planting?
The other three seem worse, if I had to take one of them though it'd be blue.
I think at some point we plant N of the oasis. I can't see Tarkeel going there.

The water north of the rice near pink is sea. Dyes can only be settled if we settle red dot. Pink dot negates it. But with blue we can improve the cow in advance just like with dyes.

More diplo is coming in from Tarkeel.

Quote:Charriu: I also see some trade opportunities with your double wine and my calendar resources.

Tarkeel: yeah, my lux situation is pretty dire

Charriu: I'm pretty sure we can work something out and there might be more to your NE

I want to stay on good terms with Tarkeel especially as my other neighbor Mjmd isn't so open.

Quote:Charriu: By the way are you interested in sharing map knowledge?

Mjmd: Most of my map knowledge is your east coast lol. And up to tarkeel

Charriu: So that's a yes?

Mjmd: Not at the moment.although we should discuss the choke between us

Charriu: Definitely. But for that we should at least share map knowledge about that region. For example I don't know how far away you are from the choke point or how long it goes.
For example I know about the two tile lake there. But everything east is unfogged

Mjmd: The forested plains nw of the rice and ne of the cow is halfway. I was eventually going to settle a middling dry cow lake city on a hill as a border city on my side 2e of that
I know you might want to settle on a hill e of the cow, but that would create a very tense border
If I was isolated in a 3 Choke isolated continent early war would not be on my agenda. I would peacefully build and let me unlucky neighbors who dont have 3 chokes fight.
Have I mentioned that we requested "not chokes in the map description". There are those who are not happy with how lucky you got.
But as you know I prioritize safe borders quite a bit

Charriu: Help me out here as I struggle to understand which point you are describing:
Is the forested plains tile you were talking about 1S of the mountain?

And yes we requested no chokes in the map description, but that's the mapmakers fault not mine.

Mjmd: 2s of the mountain is middle
My city will be on the hill s of the lake
And grab all those lovely plains
You will be able to see into my city so as long as you are far away I figure we just ignore each other

Charriu: Thanks for clarifying. I have to think about this some more especially when I will do my dotmap in a few turns. I figure we don't have to come to any decision as of now?

Mjmd: I mean there aren't any other spots for my city. Balls in your court.
There is a 3rd lake tile east of that hill. Other than that I can steal a dry cow......

That's a rough tone for the second bigger diplo interaction between us. Not only doesn't he want to share map knowledge, but outright tries to bully me into a concession on his border issue. One thing is clear I will be way more cautious towards Mjmd then towards Tarkeel.
He has the stronger 6 strength axeman and I don't have the force to defend a city on the hill right away. So if I want to plant the hill site I have to prepare for that with enough forces.

Has anyone mentioned NAPs yet? I remember that those were essential in the original diplo RB PBs.

Ah sorry did miss your post. So far nobody has mentioned them most likely because borders aren't established yet
