Music: Distant Worlds - Zephyr Memories -Legend of the Eternal Wind-
The NES part of Final Fantasy does always get that much attention for its music aside from the usual staples that made it to later games. This song from Final Fantasy III is probably the most famous one, played on the overworld map. Distant Worlds did a great job on increasing that feeling of a big world to explore to. At the same time I have to admit that's a bit said that the great rythm part of the original has gone missing on the orchestral version. Still a very good interpretation of the original with a good switch between tense and relaxed moments. It's always amazing to see how good Uematsu's compositions already were back in the NES era.
As with last time you can buy all the Distant Worlds music from bandcamp or anywhere else you find it.

Bing's vacation finally ended and this PB continues. Not that much interesting happened the last 4 turns. But this turn I got Sailing and since I have finished a road towards the Nile last turn both me and Tarkeel now profit from +2 commerce foreign trade routes. One of the multiple things we two discussed and negotiated about. As you can see from aboves screenshot I also explored more towards his north-east (Scandinavia) and he has another luxury there in the form of silver. Also probably his nearest horse resource, haven't found others yet.
Next up is Mathematics as you can see and after that Currency. I also whipped the next settler for my 4th. I know I'm a bit late for it, but so far only Tarkeel and Mjmd have planted a 4th city, so I'm feeling not that bad about it. That city will go up north on the mediterranean sea.

Music: WDR Rundfunkorchestra - Symphonic Odysseys: Tribute to Nobuo Uematsu 'The Last Story'
One of the lesser known games and OSTs by Nobuo Uematsu. I have to be honest the game wasn't totally my taste, but the music was well done as always. I especially like the solo violin parts in this arrangement played by the concertmaster. Do remember the musician playing this solo by the way. You will see him again before this PB ends.
I had the pleasure to attend this concert from the makers of 'Symphonic Fantasies' back in cologne. As always it was magical and quite a lot of good arrangements in there. This whole concert is also another great example of how the colored light in the concert hall can enhance the expierence. You can buy this recording at Amazon

Uhu, what is that? Another great scientist 7 turns after the last? Yes, I'm quite enjoying this PB right now. As you can see I did the absolutley controversial thing and settled the great person in my academy-capitol, were it now will contribute 10 beakers each turn thanks to modifiers. I especially like the additional hammer too since the city is mainly focused on food. Those hammers will certainly help with Great Library later.
But there are more important news in the wider world. Someone has researched Horseback Riding and it can only be Mjmd or Superdeath. Well we know who is playing as the Mongols. I think this PB might see some action sooner then later.

Music: London Symphony Orchestra - Final Fantasy VII (Symphony in Three Movements): I. Nibelheim Incident
You cannot imagine how happy I am to share this music with you. This piece is one of the best moments related to music in my life. You probably noticed already but Final Fantasy music arrangements are plentiful, but this is probably one of the best if not the best one. But an advice of caution, if you are only out for arrangement staying close to the original you will be somewhat disappointed here.
As you may have guessed from the title already. This is part 1 of a three movement symphony by arrangeur Jonne Valtonen. You read right, symphony. He rearranged the music of Final Fantasy VII into a whole symphony and it works so well. Definitely listen to all movements for this and take your time. It's absolutely worth it. And if you can do listen to it live.
Well and should you live in England then you have a great opportunity to do just that. There are two concerts one in Birmingham and one in Newcastle. Tickets here: https://www.gameconcerts.com/tickets/
I remember when I bought the tickets for the premiere in Wuppertal back in 2013, which was sold out the same day of course. I went there with my wife and with my mother, who likes classical music, but other then Tetris hasn't played that much games. But guess who was the first to jump up from her seat for standing ovation after the concert.
As for buying this piece you can do so at bandcamp. If you want to know more about the concert and/or buy tickets you can do so at https://www.gameconcerts.com/en/welcome/.

You may already guess what happened this turn. Yes I settled my 4th city on the Mediterranean sea, which will also close off the border towards Mjmd. Also nice to see I'm first on the border to spread my culture.
The city is named after the Nobuo Uematsu: I don't think the man needs much introduction. He did compose the music for pretty much every Final Fantasy game out there. But he also did lesser known titles like Final Fantasy Legend, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, The Last Story, Fantasy Life and Home Town Story. He also helped out in Chrono Trigger, Front Mission: Gun Hazard and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Oh and he also has his own Final Fantasy inspired Rock Band the Black Mages

Making good progress! The GS are lovely to behold. It seems that we should maybe focus a little on expansion and foodhammers? Chop granaries for that purpose?
With all the scientists we're working, you sure we don't want Pyramids? (Do we have stone?)

I'm already shifting towards expansion. Granaries are on the way. Stone to the north denied by treaties and in south too far away yet. I would also like to push the 500 hammers into expansion rather than pyramids. I'm also worried that pyramids puts a too large target sign on me.

Music: Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus - Fantasy III: Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross
If it wasn't obvious already, I am a fan of Merregon Records. This is another piece out of the Symphonic Fantasies concert I attended in Cologne. Well not this recording, which is the only one available to buy. Chrono Trigger of course is one of the most beloved games out there and that also goes for its OST. If you look at sites like Overclocked Remix you will see that Chrono Trigger sports the most remixes of all single games. But one should not dismiss its sequel Chrono Cross, which may not reach the same highest as Trigger did, but the OST is definitly great too. It's fair to say that these two are Yasunori Mitsuda's masterwork.
This arrangement is once again a medley across both games. Now one thing you will notice quickly in the piece is the noticable presence of one percussion instrument: The Darbouka played by Rony Barrak. An excellence performance, which also shows how varied this instrument can be. We will most likely see him again in a later post.
Of course you will find all great tunes of the two games in here, but takes the cake for me is 'Prisoners of Fate' beginning somewhere around 8:50 after a dramatic intro on the violin. I don't know why but this song always gets me with its melancholy especially when the full orchestra joins in at 9:50 and the crescendo at 10:09. But it doesn't stop there, just wait a moment and witness a beautiful mix between 'Prisoners of Fate' and 'Chrono Trigger Main Theme'. Just awesome.

What did I hear? You want expansion. Well you get it. I settled another city this turn my 5th on the Indian Ocean. This is an important stepping stone for multiple purposes. First of all it will be a stronger production city on the eastern sea. Which is important to get the other cities on the coast running. It also is one step closer to the southern isthmus, which I can close of with another city south of it. Lastly it serves as a springboard towards the land to the east of it. Now I don't want to call it an island as I cannot be sure of it. It looks like Mjmd in the north is disconnected from it by a 1 tile water canal, but more exploration is needed. As you can see I didn't connect the city yet via road, but I send out an open border deal towards Bing. If he takes it the city will have trade routes. Unfortunately Mjmd didn't accept the OB I send him yet.
The city is named after Yasunori Mitsuda: As may already know from the song section the game most players know him from is Chrono Trigger and its sequel Chrono Cross. But he also worked on other titles like Xenogears and contributed to Front Mission: Gun Hazard, Xenoblades Chronicles

I've done a curious little comparison since I did settle the 2nd great scientist. Common wisdom is to use a great scientist to bulb Mathematics. Since I can compare this quite easily with my spreadsheet I looked into the following 3 scenarios.
A: My current plans with 1st scientist into academy, 2nd and 3rd scientist settled in the academy city
B: Same as A, but the 2nd scientist bulbs Mathematics, the 3rd bulbs Alphabet
C: Same as A, but the 2nd scientist bulbs Mathematics, the 3rd is safed for a later use (golden age?)
And these are the times I get the following techs
A: Currency T82 Mathematics T69 Hunting T84
B: Currency T81 Mathematics T62 Hunting T62 Alphabet T77
C: Currency T83 Mathematics T62 Hunting T62
So of course I would have more techs by bulbing Mathematics that was to be expected over this short timeframe. But I find it interesting that at least in this simple comparison Currency comes around almost at the same time in each scenario. Of course in a real bulb plan I might have made more changes to the microplan, but I didn't want to invest that much work into the comparison.

Math bulb is a last resort to reach Currency or Construction when the economy is shot from expansion and/or war. In your case it would be an unconscionable waste of a GP.

I agree that's one thing I wanted to show with the comparison

My scout explored all tiles (well except for 1W of the fish, but I doubt there is a second sea food there).
Let the dotmapping begin.
