[PB64] Lurking Randomly

Yeah, i think best decision was to accept as i don think amica can do hat much damage to sd in 10 turns.

Oh I didn't mean to say that it is right or wrong. Just found it funny that the same thing happened to both of them and saying it was a grave mistake

In Pitboss 64, we'd actually bombing ourselves back to the stone age.

As always all the data can be found here: PB64 Tracking

Before we start some notable observations:
  • You will notice that in general development is way slower compared to other PBs. That's because the map isn't as lush as our usual custom made maps.
  • I'm not tracking anything that the players got from a hut. I tried to backfill gained techs as best as possible, but here I mostly rely on the players reporting.
  • Game-wise we saw Gavagai finally being eliminated by the hands of Superdeath
  • Commodore and Ginger continued their prosperous and happy relationship
  • Ginger was dogpiled by Commodore, Naufragar and Superdeath, but survived.
  • Superdeath managed to get back into the game somewhat thanks to more land and Pyramid
  • We saw a big dogpile against Amicalola by Naufragar, Superdeath and Commodore
  • No more wonders were finished
I also wanted to point out that this is a very interesting game for its economics. Unlike most other games players do not rely on the (by now somewhat stale) cottage economy. So far it looks like the economies are setup like this so far.
  • Commodore: Water tiles with Colossus
  • Ginger: Serfdom mills and going specialists with wonders
  • Gavagai: Representation-Pyramid specialists
  • Amicalola: No-cottages, Great Lighthouse, someday serfdom
  • Naufrogger: FIN, ORG water tiles
  • Superdeath: Mines

Now there is no new data compared to PB61, but I was able to fix the production trackings. Here a brief explanation of the new stuff:

Actual gold/science: This works like the previous science and gold tracking, but this time the slider setting is included. Therefore we know exactly how much everybody produced in those areas.
Production and TotalProduction: I thought about how to better judge all the hammer bonuses for buildings, units and wonders and thought that tracking the actual production might be a good metric to track. The production metric is somewhat useful though.
Tech Tracking: Similar to wonders and great persons I'm now also tracking when each player researched each tech. Small downside, I'm not tracking which tech the players choose from Oracle or Liberalism and tech tracking. The former should still be easy to guess in the context of other techs researched and the last is only used in diplo games in the past, so I didn't bother so far.
Tracking all the civics: I already tracked the labor civics in use. So why not track all of them.

General state of the game
City count
  1. Amicalola = 18
  2. naufragar = 14
  3. Commodore = 12
  4. Superdeath (IMP) = 12
  5. Ginger (IMP) = 6
  6. Gavagai = 0
Population
  1. Amicalola = 98
  2. naufragar = 86
  3. Commodore = 68
  4. Superdeath (IMP) = 59
  5. Ginger (IMP) = 41
  6. Gavagai = 0
City count remained mainly the same since T200, but everybody lost population. Looking at the world population it dropped from 516 to 352 in the last 43 turns.

Current turn Gold at 100%
  1. Amicalola (PRO) = 579
  2. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 370
  3. Commodore = 319
  4. Superdeath (FIN) = 263
  5. Ginger (PRO) = 251
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 0
Similar to population everybody now made less gold, except for Superdeath.

Current turn total maintenance
  1. Ginger (PRO) = 143
  2. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 208
  3. Superdeath (FIN) = 220
  4. Commodore = 222
  5. Amicalola (PRO) = 311
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 0
At the same time everybody except Ginger is now paying more in maintenance. Truly a world looking at a prosperous future.

Current turn maintenance-gold delta
  1. Amicalola (PRO) = 268
  2. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 162
  3. Ginger (PRO) = 108
  4. Commodore = 97
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 43
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 0
A world in decline.

Accumulated actual science
  1. Amicalola (PRO) = 24654
  2. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 23999
  3. Ginger (PRO) = 17896
  4. Commodore = 14693
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 9125
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 6630
Ginger's run in the three-horse race was ended. Amicalola and naufragar both remain close together.
But what exactly did the players do with all those beakers. Well fear not here it is:

Very interesting. Despite the dog pile Ginger remained in the TOP 2 on techs. Also interesting that the barbarians are tied with Commodore in 4th place for amount of techs. crazyeye

Production
Accumulated total production
You will find the unmodified production in parenthesis if it differs. I only show relevant traits here.
  1. Amicalola (EXP, PRO) = 42922 (35701)
  2. Ginger (IMP, PRO) = 29005 (22150)
  3. naufragar (ORG) = 26735 (22530)
  4. Superdeath (IMP) = 25238 (21917)
  5. Commodore (CHA) = 22087 (20480)
  6. Gavagai (AGG, EXP) = 12257 (11310)
Impressive numbers by Amicalola. Superdeath gained a large chunk of modified hammers, which largly comes from Police State.

Financial Bonus
Current turn FIN bonus
  1. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 92
  2. Amicalola (PRO) = 71
  3. Commodore = 69
  4. Ginger (PRO) = 32
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 26
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 0

Accumulated FIN bonus
  1. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 9927
  2. Amicalola (PRO) = 8578
  3. Commodore = 7043
  4. Ginger (PRO) = 5436
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 3468
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 1210
Nobody wins in multiple world wars.

Severity of FIN nerf compared to BtS
Here the comparison for this lighthouse implementation compared to BtS (delta, reduction in percent):
  1. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 581 (-5.53%)
  2. Commodore = 1174 (-14.29%)
  3. Gavagai (AGG) = 1197 (-49.73%)
  4. Amicalola (PRO) = 2498 (-22.55%)
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 2313 (-40.01%)
  6. Ginger (PRO) = 1762 (-24.48%)
Now keep in mind that only two players are incentivized to work towards improving FIN numbers.

Protective Bonus
Current turn PRO bonus
  1. Amicalola (PRO) = 114
  2. Ginger (PRO) = 31
  3. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 35
  4. Commodore = 18
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 17
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 0
Well if all breaks down due to war at least domestic trade improves. smile

Accumulated PRO bonus
  1. Amicalola (PRO) = 9349
  2. Commodore = 1623
  3. Ginger (PRO) = 1578
  4. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 1498
  5. Superdeath (FIN) = 519
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 178
This happens when you have the most cities + Great Lighthouse and not enough foreign trade routes to fill them up.

Misc
Great people born
  1. Ginger (PRO) = 12
  2. Commodore = 6
  3. Amicalola (PRO) = 5
  4. Superdeath (FIN) = 3
  5. naufragar (FIN, ORG) = 2
  6. Gavagai (AGG) = 2
Civics

Government: Superdeath remained a Police State until the end and everbody else a Monarch.
Legal: Ginger switched into Bureaucracy at T225. Everybody except Superdeath is running Vassallage by now even the barbarians. That means Superdeath is now the only Barbarian. lol
Labor: Amicalola was forced to switch into Slavery in T230. This similarly happened to Ginger in T205, but he returned to Serfdom in T225. Superdeath joined the Serfdom crew in T235. The rest is still holding slaves. Except for the barbarians who are running Caste System of all things.
Economy: Amicalola switched into Mercantilism in T201 and Ginger in T205. Everybody else is decentralized.
Religion: Gavagai, naufragar and the barbarians kept Organized Religion until the end. Same for Commodore with Theocracy and Superdeath and Amicalola for Paganism. Only Ginger switched into Paganism in T205.

War Weariness
Commodore would have experienced WW unhappiness of 1-3 in 10+ cities for quite some turns. Same for Amicalola and naufragar, but never going above 2 unhappiness. Ginger would not have expierenced unhappiness and Superdeath too, but only thanks to Police State.

Comparing traits

The main goal of all this tracking of course is to compare the economic traits related around commerce income or maintenance reduction. So let's do this:

Very interesting statistic. Of course FIN is strong with Commodore and naufragar because of their water based economy. Similarly PRO is great for Amicalola because of Great Lighthouse. Superdeath wanted to be AGG, but got FIN. Gavagai wanted to be AGG and got AGG.
But for the most part we see that ORG is the best general trait as this is a cottage poor map.

This was a very interesting game not only for the stories that evolved, but also because this is a random map and therefore much closer to the actual BtS. If you think about it the need for mods on RB changing traits and bigger game concepts probably evolved due to two things. We like to play with unrestricted leaders and RB in general likes to play on "artifical" lush maps, which throw off the balance provided in BtS.

Damn, it's too bad this game has to end like this. I was rooting for seeing the Mad Max world play out in all of its apocalyptic glory. lol
