[SPOILERS] Magic Science and Nobody Else in Pitboss 66

Turn 161 and Turn 162 – 1010 AD and 1020 AD

Peace with Plem-adilly now! They occupied the target Crab tile with 2 Combat I Triremes, which is a force that my navy cannot attack and defeat, and blockades do not stop you from working tiles in CtH (whoops smoke), so I abandoned the Final Greco-Roman War.

War with Alhazard still! He is angry about that War Chariot. Sorry again alright, but you have absolutely no leverage in this negotiation, and I am not paying you anything. EDIT1: Please let me have peace for PYFTs sake. I will even agree to an actual binding Peace Treaty if I must, but it must be a white Peace Treaty.

Cassandra is already dead (goodbye my beloved scouting Work Boat frown. I will never forget you). Bro Jr. was safe, but he blundered back into danger prematurely, but he cannot do anything else in superdeath’s region of Daggerland anyway, so whatever.

I have my 2 Great Generals. I have 2 sources of Iron (thank you superdeath, and thank you Ginger* specifically not Miguelito ha). I have 1 Archer, so I will wait 1 more turn to train a second Archer.

Next turn I will finally use my Great Generals to promote and upgrade some units. Then there will truly be nothing left for me to do in this game except hit “Enter” promptly occasionally and wait for death. Should be fun!

Aphrodite’s Garrison (projected): 9 Crossbowmen (all City Garrison I), 6 Phalanxes (all Combat I), 3 Axemen (1 Combat I). And my 3 obsolete naval units. And maybe 2 or 3 more Phalanxes (none promoted) from 2 or 3 more whips. And maybe 1 more Crossbowman upgraded from 1 more Archer instead, because I almost have enough money and I just realized I could do that.

EDIT2: My obsolete naval units are positioned like that to remove themselves and two Axemen from the city tile when I use my Great Generals. It is also a test of how closely Civ-eel is watching me to defend New Steamfount, which currently has no culture and no walls and only 2 partially fortified Axemen. However, I think I will not spend any more units attacking even if they do nothing in response.

Hi there, just a short lurker notice to submit a "thank you" for entertaining reports. Didn't read that much but liked it!  smile

I just follow plemadillys thread in this game because my free time is too limited to read EVERYTHING rant

But then I wanted to get a different view on that longgoing war, so I am here.
You have very skilled opponents with just sea in the backyard... and praetorians are op! wink

Good luck with your last stand, looks like it is well prepared. Those exp-attacks lately are probably questionable on the diplomacy front but it made me smile and I bet that a lot of leaders are wondering what you are doing (instead of just dying) cool

Oh and bonus points for your scouting. I also like to explore the world and probably spend too many hammers for this in my games.

Hello, you are welcome. I am glad you liked what you read. smile.

I look forward to reading the enemy thread on CivForum later and learning their perspective. My perspective is that their empty sea backyard was very bad luck for me, but I would have been fine anyway if I just understood the danger and whipped harder sooner. There were lots of other little things too, but acting like I was at peace when really I was at war was the main thing.
EDIT: And when they offered a Peace Treaty on Turn 87 or whatever turn it was exactly, that totally fooled me! I want to see why they offered that!

I think a lot of other players in this game do not know my history (RB PB 40), or they would not leave me so many fun opportunities to attack them. Well, they know better now. lol In my situation, I think diplomacy is irrelevant as long as I can find 1 person to have a trade route with me and 1 person to give me free Iron.

About the scouting, my last scouting unit was killed this turn, so my exploration is over. The last thing I can do is try to trade World Maps with everyone who has Paper. Maybe it will work.

...

Anyway, Turn 163 is over, and everything happened just like I said, and Alhazard proposed a Cease Fire. Now I will calmly wait for the end.
Can I make it to Turn 200? Can I make it to 9th place?

I'll echo that, Magic Science! Very entertaining, especially for someone in an unenviable position.

Alhazard and Civ-eel just fought a battle so epic that 5 Great Generals were born between them in 1 turn of fighting. Incredible. yikes.

This is made possible by the ancient history of peace (mostly mischief) both sides enjoyed. The Event Log is made more confusing because of how both civac and Tarkeel were logged in last at different stages of the battle.

Meanwhile, Amicalola wants to trade Pigs for Pigs for some reason. Alright, sure?

I have one last trick up my sleeve, though it is unlikely to amount to anything: my two GG-led Crossbowmen can promote to Morale. I had forgotten, or maybe never known, that Morale has no prerequisites. So if Mjmd or Civ-eel are careless and forget about the old disembark-and-promote-to-Morale trick, then I might have a chance to attack CaptainMorgan (is that its name?) (where Old Hera was) or New Crushbone, respectively. However, they probably know about this and about my Great Generals, and at this stage in the game even a wimpy thoughtless default garrison can stop me. Plem-adilly is right there on the border for both those cities.
Still, I have hope, and I will not delete Hera's Dream quite yet, even though I should.

Alhazard is collapsing. I thought Civ-eel had somehow missed their chance to conquer Alhazard profitably and remain a contender, but I was obviously wrong. Good job. Golfclap.

Plem-adilly already conquered Alhazard's cities in Daggerland. The only special obstacle left between me and 9th place is Alhazard's 1-tile island city, Athribis, but I am certain he will not fortify it like I fortified Aphrodite.

Also, Plem-adilly discovered Chemistry last turn, and now they are researching Optics, which is due in 1 turn. The end draws ever nearer.

Turn: 180.

Good news: Gavagai is attacking Vanrober, and Superdeath attacked again too. Vanrober already only has 6 cities left, and he has nowhere to hide. Is 8th place within my grasp? rolf.

Bad news: Mjmd at least has Rifles now.

Civ-eel has a Caravel. I magnanimously permitted it to live.
Vanrober has 1 city left. He may be eliminated this very turn.
