My times are 1200 - 1300 GMT and 2200 - 0400, basically. Note that I haven't completed even a single campaign yet so it's going to be learn-as-I-go.

Filthy Robot on youtube has some videos of multiplayer duels. I imagine our game will follow a similar meta

nolegskitten as well, they are both developers for the game
The play by cloud function of the game works quite well in my experience, even cross platform once you have managed to set up the game via a network game.
I am open to using PYDT if you guys prefer, it did a good job for CIV6
Time slots are:
Bruindane 03:00 - 07:00 UTC
Ginger (assuming evening is 20:00 - 23:00 PST) 04:00 - 07:00 UTC
Kaiser 12:00 - 23:00 UTC (with a high likelyhood to play at 11:00 - 13:00 UTC)
CMF 22:00 - 04:00 UTC (with a lunch slot I assume 12:00 - 13:00 UTC)
It looks like CMF and me are roughly in the same window and Bruindane and Ginger as well.
Do you guys want to play 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 (this is the standard the game comes up when enabling teams) or more a 1 - 1 - 2 - 2?
Do you guys prefer likely having a better turn pace or to have a better time alignment with the other player on your team?
You should be able to edit the excel sheet I shared to give your inputs there, I added the team distribution there.

The original developer intention was for MP games to be played without characters and events, due to randomness they add, but the community at large came to conclusion that disabling them takes away too much from the game, so it's been the norm to accept the randomness and keep characters / events even in MP
The game supports play by cloud natively, unlike Civ 5/6, and shouldn't need 3rd party tools like PYDT
I really cannot sign up for another game in addition to Pitboss 68

I'm ambivalent on all the settings, except that character inclusion, map mirroring, 1-2-1-2,
and (by extension of mirrored starts) no national starting techs are dealbreakers for me.
No Char is too dry, map mirroring is necessary for obv balance reasons, and 1-2-1-2 seems so much smoother than getting a double hit if tag-teaming with your ally.
Also if the starts have a lot of animal husbandry resources, the demand for Persia and Hatti would be too high, so no start techs please

Updated the spreadsheet with the settings I understood.
With competitive mode on, I said yes to ancient ruins (aka no for no ancient ruins) as the big gameplay events are supposedly disabled.
In terms of time, and looking at everybody's window overlap, I should be able to play consistently in the early part of the window, 3-5 UTC on most days as Ginger indicated late evenings were ok. I believe the in-game attribute is Educated Night Owl.

Iam open for any settings, my selections were just a recommendation, so I will switch to ancient ruins so we have a majority there. (ancient ruins will be in the game)
I think we are mostly aligned on the settings:
- only Ginger and me have stated a map type preference, currently it tends to coastal rain basin.
- for difficulty reasons I suggested "tribes > weak", ginger prefers a higher tribe difficulty (which basically means expanding will be more difficult and that there will be more AI interference) I am fine with any
- "difficulty > the good" was another suggestion to start with generous starting ressources and a good chunk of base orders, personally I like the harder decision making coming with higher difficulties but I would like you guys to chime in here as well so we are aligned (the good is the AI level)
A side note, I believe we have to do the archetype "random identical" as preparation for the game as the random option generates different archetypes per player I believe. I will prepare a list of all the archetypes so we can ask somebody to randomize.
Do we want to go for better turnpace (Bruindane - Kaiser, Ginger - CMF) or for better team alignment ( Bruindane - Ginger, Kaiser - CMF)?
If we have that then we can go ahead ans ask lurkers to randomize starting player and archetype for us

Yeah, in general I don't know enough about the game yet to have any firm preferences. I yield to those with more experience.
I'd prefer team alignment to turn pace, since I'm stretched a bit thin as it is. When this stalled last month I got involved in my AGEOD project and that's eating lots of time.

I am open for both, so ginger and bruindane, it is up for you to decide and then we can ask the lurkers to roll

I'm trying to grok what team alignment means and how it affects turn pacing. I presume we would remain 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 so the turn pace halves, but we get more forum (or equivalent) discussion to address unexpected developments during 12 hour time windows.
I don't mind the slower pace.
The other possibility for team alignment is chaotic neutral.
