There are several leaders I've always felt like they should be able to do more than they ever do, and we've seen some of them come to life the past couple seasons. Bismark and Victoria always felt like they could easily win with the right map and last season they showed some life (although Vicky's throw a couple seasons ago showed she CAN do stuff.) Joao did it this game. Sitting Bull and Peter never fail to fail as expected.
Civ4 AI Survivor Season Seven

Some AIs suffering from not getting Wheel or in other cases Mysticism is fairly common.
One reason is that warmonger AIs sometimes get Iron Working very early which can take forever (especially in the no Wheel case).
The tech research flavors early on can lead to some important techs being really slow to get. I suspect this was a big part of why deity AIs are normally just given a bunch of the early techs. It prevents them from getting caught in these traps and crippling their early development. For AI Survivor purposes, it makes the different leaders more distinct which is generally a good thing for the contest.
Another interesting game, as season 7 continues to be full of surprises. I mostly got this game all wrong (as is usually the case ), but was especially surprised by
Alternate histories for this one will be particularly interesting, I think.
Civfanatics also has a lot of discussion on them.
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.
Lesson to self, stop thinking about trying to predict games. By far my best score this year came from a pick that took all of five seconds.
In overall terms, I'm not as engaged this year as I'd like to be, between busy work, involvement with my local soccer club (I volunteer as much as I am able with Cobh Ramblers and match days are Friday evenings). So I'll be watching back with interest over the summer months.
