Civ4 AI Survivor Season Seven

There are several leaders I've always felt like they should be able to do more than they ever do, and we've seen some of them come to life the past couple seasons. Bismark and Victoria always felt like they could easily win with the right map and last season they showed some life (although Vicky's throw a couple seasons ago showed she CAN do stuff.) Joao did it this game. Sitting Bull and Peter never fail to fail as expected.

Top ten in the picking contest for game 4? How did THAT happen? eek lol

What was going on with the barbs in game 4? Qin and Peter lost cities to the barbs, without raging barbs being on. smoke These are deity AIs, they get massive bonus against barbs.

Also, what was going on with AIs not researching the wheel? Qin being slow to get roads was commented on during the stream, but Mao was also very late getting Wheel tech.

The colors for Russia and Mao were very similar, it made the mini map very hard to read at times.

Some AIs suffering from not getting Wheel or in other cases Mysticism is fairly common.

One reason is that warmonger AIs sometimes get Iron Working very early which can take forever (especially in the no Wheel case).

The tech research flavors early on can lead to some important techs being really slow to get. I suspect this was a big part of why deity AIs are normally just given a bunch of the early techs. It prevents them from getting caught in these traps and crippling their early development. For AI Survivor purposes, it makes the different leaders more distinct which is generally a good thing for the contest.

Any thoughts on the current games? I'm surprised there isn't a thread-per-game setup.

Figures the one time a pool 1 leader wins is when many of us had learned our lesson to not pick him. I almost went with Roosevelt, and I can see him winning many alternate histories. He had a stronger position than I even envisioned when I almost picked him. That nonsense was not the way to go about using it though.

Sullla's discord's probably the best place for that.

Another interesting game, as season 7 continues to be full of surprises. I mostly got this game all wrong (as is usually the case lol), but was especially surprised by

how strong Churchill was. He usually does not do much, and that heavy forest start looked like it would be a poor one for England. But he did quite well, other than the insane across map war with Boudica.

Alternate histories for this one will be particularly interesting, I think.

Lesson to self, stop thinking about trying to predict games. By far my best score this year came from a pick that took all of five seconds.

In overall terms, I'm not as engaged this year as I'd like to be, between busy work, involvement with my local soccer club (I volunteer as much as I am able with Cobh Ramblers and match days are Friday evenings). So I'll be watching back with interest over the summer months.
