@Charriu: Thank you for the additional information regarding the trigger. This also explains the different courses in my tests. It is also interesting that a fighter only defends until it is shot down or has enough XP for the next promotion, which should also be new information for many.

No no. According to the code the fighter should continue defending until it is your turn. Then its mission is reset at the start of your turn.

Depends on the MP mode:

Simultaneous = At the turn roll
Sequential = When your turn is up

Also I no longer consider this a bug. If you group units together and give them a mission then of course they act as a group for that mission.

I don't understand. The fighters should still defend on turn roll since this is before Mjmd plays so there couldn't have been any losses or promotions. But they didn't? Or did I misunderstand that?

My understanding is; a fighter will stop intercepting when it's gained enough xp to promote, at which point it will cancel the orders for it's entire group. So the workaround is to never set a group of fighters to intercept, but give them individual orders.
