pbem Ladder - 2010 Challenge

As some of you know, I have been participating in the 2010 Challenge (Linda Carpenter Memorial Tournament) at the pbem ladder web site. I finished with a record of 7-0 and here is a write up of my last game.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Congrats, Ruff! thumbsup Maybe the Advanced Start Epic we did a while back was helpful for you, although it probably doesn't take too much thought to realize that you should concentrate spending your points on cities and workers. If you start with 5 cities and the other guy starts with 3 cities, that should equal game over. And it was. nod

You've got the right idea on Quick speed double-whips. That's definitely the way to produce units (ideally with your city growing back working food resources and cottages). Also, did the other guy have ivory too? If you had a monopoly on ivory in the Classical era, "Big Jon" was in for a serious ass-stomping no matter what. hammer

No he didn't have ivory. Some of my opponents in the other 6 games certainly did. I didn't get it in all of my games either. I think I got a religion in 6 of 7 (which is a bit above the averages 3/4).

ok, now I am really worried. I've just checked my web site tracker (over 100 hits just today - thank you one and all) and the 'Australian Department Of Defence' has trawled through most of my site. Either someone there is working on a Sunday and loves my civ4 stories (I don't think so) ... or they have set a spider to keep track of my civ4 world domination movements shhh.

Nice writeup, Ruff. MP certainly is a different game than single player.

Well done!

You should try it out. My strategy for RB MP action is to stockpile skilled RB vets and then lose. I picked up regoarrarr and darrell, and now sooooo, and I'd love to lose a game alongside Compromise too lol

My Civ4 playing style is way overreliant on gambits that take advantage of AI idiosynrasies; you MP guys would wipe the floor with me!

I am planning to develop a more balanced approach to Civ5 though. Some MP would probably help that a lot....

It's not hard to imagine an "Australian Department of Defence" having time on their hands lol. Who are they defending Australia against? Is it for if the kangaroos get a bit restless??

I'm told they bravely fight against refugees wink

Btw, that wasn't a political crack, I just follow an Australian's blog and he talks about government issues with refugees all the time.

Plus, @ sooooo, you know the native enemies of the Australians. Think of the geography:
