Just as a scheduling point, we have friends staying tonight (Wed) and Friday (different friends) so I'm very happy for someone else to pick up the next set of turns.
Will now actually go read the report ...

Thanks for getting us going, RefSteel. Looks like a hostile galaxy out there. The rocks are going to be a huge problem.
Ugh; I hate it when posts get eaten that way. Every time it happens to me, I resolve to always compose offline and copy-paste into the forum - and then inevitably slip again and think, "Oh, this will be a short post; no need to go around..." ... and then the post gets long, and...
I agree on the rocks, and I should mention that whoever plays next actually does have a lot of options even right away. I do recommend keeping Nature on research at least until another world gets enough industry to keep the population fully employed while also carrying tech, but Mentar can go in a few different directions. Finishing the colship seems obvious, but it can still be delayed for more factories (and maybe a slight discount when IT+10) comes in - (and/) or if we really want to do all we can to hold off the Silicoids, the existing ship investment there can be turned into military instead, and sent to try holding Proteus against the rocks. I don't know how long it'll take them to get the range tech they need to claim that planet, but it's possible it'll happen soon, and if they send an escort with their colony ship and we have nothing in place to stop them, we could have a lot of Sili worlds in our midst! Interesting choices ahead....

I'm out of town and won't be able to play before Friday.
Comments: it looks like a challenging start. Poor Nature will have a lot of trouble building any defenses; its best defense will probably be its ability to breed more Psilons. It certainly seems like we could be surrounded by the rocks if they're aggressive about "building" colony ships.

Thanks for the heads-up on scheduling, shallow_thought and DaveV.
Which suggests haphazard1 is up! (If you'll have time to play in the next day or two....)

Good points, although I like to rely on mobile defenses when I can. Laser ships do have a short shelf life though, and we don't know what the Silicoids will be bringing (nor when)!

I will see if I can find time to play Thursday sometime. If not, then maybe DaveV can take the save Friday and I will slot in later.
Tough choices. Trying to fight the rocks to block them from grabbing the hostile worlds is likely to be expensive, and probably means losing that Terran 120 to the Humans. I would be tempted to finish the colony ship and get another (non poor) world started developing. But we will need multiple colony ships to settle towards the T120; do we build more factories at Mentar first, or try to squeeze out more col ships as rapidly as possible with the industry we have? And what about research funding?
Never enough BCs to do everything I would like.

Forgot to ask: how many turns are we playing per set at the moment?
Not sure yet if I will have time this afternoon to play. Depends on how many tasks show up in my inbox over the next couple hours.

Sounds good! Second and third sets are usually fifteen turns each (so 2320-2335 for this one) before dropping to ten per set thereafter. Good luck with the turns and the rest of the day!

A bunch of stuff turned up that I needed to deal with today, so I was not able to find time to play. And tomorrow does not look promising either, so I think I will have to go later in the turn order. Sorry.
Hopefully DaveV or shallow_thought can grab the save. Good luck!

Worst case I will be able to pick it up on Saturday. Normally my social life leaves me plenty of time for important things like SGs - this is an unusual week!

It's looking like Saturday for me, too; I had a lot of catching up to do after returning home. As long as shallow_ghought and I are scrupulous about posting a "got it" before playing, it should be fine.
