It's been a while, but I think the time might be rolling around again for an enormous "get as many as we can in here" pitboss game. They're always a hoot, like nothing else I've ever seen or played in. Not now, per se, but soon...I'm thinking about opening up signups now for something that starts when Pitboss 66, 69, and probably 70 all wrap up. A signup with a timeframe can help. Settings can be debated a bit, but the successful settings from the past are:
Map: FIXED Big & Small (modified so that luxuries actually spawn in the Smalls). 
Snaky Archipelago also works, or a Totestra if the script could be modded to about double the food bonuses.  
Mod: Close to Home seems stable and good.
Combos: Random rolls, with possible rerolls allowed up to two times?
Difficulty: Monarch or Emperor (this isn't German-forum length of time)
Randoms: Events, barbs, etc, all on seems to have added a lot of spice. Neighbors will matter more, I promise. 
Rules: True AI Diplo, limit 1 city per treaty, something else standard I'm missing? No tech trading, no EP I'd think.

Would tentatively join if this started after PB70 ended. I'd prefer a little more control over leader/civ than total pure random if possible. If folks don't want to snake pick, then a little more wiggle room in the random rolls/rerolls would be nice (something like multiple options and/or multiple rerolls available would help). If PB70 looks likely to go too long and there's no appetite to wait, I'll just ded-lurk someone.

PB59 pick scheme was interesting, which I think is what Commodore is describing. Depending on number of players I could also create a large random block spreadsheet (easy to do just depends if we actually get more than 13 won't work as well as PB59 method).

PB 59 pick method seemed fine.

Maybe we should give a bit of thought to how we avoid it dying like so many others of its kind. The best I can contribute is that 20+ cities per player (what 59 was) is all very fun until someone inevitably ends up with 100+ and hating their winning position. Cramped maps will always produce frustration for some early on, but if a kind that seems more bearable to me.
