OSG-38 - Renaissance Psilons

The cats did not have the AM Bomb tech a couple turns previously when I checked. So we got lucky and grabbed their very latest tech. smile

Three rock planets captured, with a fourth to be taken next turn. Rock influence in the galaxy is fading quickly. We might even end up with someone else as our council opponent in 2525.

Wow, great turns, and quick turnarounds, both of you! Between the new bombs and the gains we've made already, I'm feeling confident in my prediction that this is everybody's last set of the game! Hopefully the new forum update will cut down on glitches like the ones you each ran into earlier this game, too....

(And I still love the little in-character intros. The repair specialist and the nostalgic take on the rusty but still-capable old Ultimatum was a pleasure to read especially!)

Good luck keeping us rolling, DaveV! (Rolling, that is, over the entire galaxy!)

Good set, haphazard. Better bombs should be the turning point.

Got it, will play sometime today or tomorrow.

Yesterday didn't work, today is not looking good. If anyone else wants to step in, feel free; otherwise, I think I'll be able to play tomorrow.

I couldn't have gotten to it today regardless; I might take it tomorrow night if tomorrow doesn't work out for you and you'd rather swap or skip, but as shallow_thought said last week, I don't think there's much urgency to switching the schedule around right now. We're close to the end here either way - so I'm maybe more curious about whether (either soon or after a break) anyone's interested in another, perhaps "weirder" (or, if someone like rgp151 would like to play who's not used to Impossible games, maybe less extreme) SG moderately soon. You know, before next summer, maybe!

I agree that there is no real rush, so whenever DaveV can get to the save is fine by me. Hopefully RefSteel is correct and we are close to a succesful end to this game.

I would be interested in another SG after this one, either an easier game with some newer players or another variant.

I could design a good Anti-matter bomber, but decided to wait for the three techs that were already in the 0-10% range to finish (the old "one more tech" mistake). In the meantime, I switched production everywhere to Phasor 4.0, to build up some credits that I could switch into bombers.

On 2511, Propulsion finished. At this point in the game, I'm worried about researching a tech that could be stolen and used against me, so I went with faster engines. To be honest, there's a pretty slim chance of actually finishing this research before the game is over.

The transports that were already on the way to Kulthos landed and laid waste to the Silicoid defenders. No techs to steal, despite all the captured factories.

2513:

BC8 completes, I pick IRC6.

The Silicoids want peace. No.

2514:

Hercular missiles come in, I pick Neutronium bomb next. Again, it's probably academic.

Also, in the "one more tech" spirit, I decide to wait for construction research, which is now in the 0-10% range.

2516:

Weapon steal from Mrrshans:

Construction research finishes. I switch all production over to AM 6.0 bombers.

We capture Maretta.

2519:

Another steal from the Mrrshans.

2520:

Klackons offer alliance, I refuse.

I stripped bases from three Silicoid worlds on this turn (including Cryslon), we could invade any or all of them.

These were pretty sloppily played turns; I lost ~1000 Quantity 6 bombers to a pulsar-equipped Kraken, and then failed to coordinate the arrival of my fleet at Cryslon, requiring an extra turn to bomb out the bases.

If the election were held right now, it looks like we'd be up against the Mrrshans, who are at war with the Klackons and Meklars. We could probably glass most of the galaxy in the next five turns, or keep sending transports to Silicoid worlds.

Looks like some good turns, DaveV. thumbsup More rock planets captured, more tech stolen and researched. Good stuff. nod

Do we have a decent chance of winning the next council vote? If we are close, wiping out some AI planets to shift the votes might be worth it. If we do go for more invasions, we should be careful about not having too much pop in transit the turn of the vote.

We are getting into late game tech that I rarely see. IRC6? eek Neutronium bombs? Powered armor?

I would probably have gone for Advanced Damage Control. But I agree that it is unlikely the game will continue long enough for that to make a difference.

Sounds good, DaveV! (Although the picture links seem to be broken now? They were working earlier today...)

Also, got it! If I'm reading the gamestate correctly from the save, this shouldn't take too long. (Now, will I be able to finish the report tomorrow? That's another question....)

Good luck, RefSteel!

I also see broken image links now, but there worked fine earlier today. Not sure what is going on there.
