Fair enough, this is still in the end not even a game you wanted, but one you were kind enough to sub for.

Yeah, I subbed figuring by the time diplo got out of control I'd be lurking. My plan was to sub for a few weeks, stick around as a ded-lurker, then think about joining another game. Unfortunately I had fun and the original player never returned, except to chime in via discord once every 2 months and also randomly login twice and screw with my city management without warning which I don't think I ever mentioned in here.

Heh. Has Ginger ever mentioned what's going on?
I think this game proves why sometimes you need more hard and fast rules then don't be a dick, by the by. Speaking of, I found it somewhat duplicitous when galley gifting was going on when SD was (?) in a NAP. That's diplo for you, I guess.

Just decided to take a break from Civ. Makes sense, but would have been best if he had done it prior to the game starting. I'm guessing me taking over felt like a relief, so once he got that feeling he just never came back.

Well, I think there's a distinction between in-game duplicitousness and unsporting things, and I think anyone can tell the difference. For example, agreeing to a NAP you have no intention of keeping and stabbing immediately is snake behavior, but it's not cheating. That is within the realm of options as a player. Me responding to Mjmd attacking me 25T ago by gifting all my cities to Superdeath would be different - just straight up unsporting.
I think the former scenario should be allowed and should be "dealt with" via reputational hit, not rules. The latter should just result in someone being ostracized from future games.

That's fair. No way I would suggest any sanction for it, but as you say it as of the same kind (though utterly different in degree) as the NAP-stabbing (though I honestly don't remember if SD and MJ had a NAP).

Had to do it the hard way thanks to a weird rule.
Roughly even luck, captured after losing a few CKNs. Shoutout to Mjmd for bombing the defenses down for me.
Granary and a Lighthouse survived. I landed a bunch of units next to Kirkhope, and also offered Charriu peace for Kirkhope. Hopefully he accepts.
Charriu is still not max whipping/drafting despite the impending conquest, or in this case he's building a lumbermill for Mjmd rather than chopping an extra unit.
I don't know what we're doing here.

It reminds me a bit of the famous Imperio stab. Not because Charriu broke a deal, but because it seems he hasn't really committed to any side fully and that can spell doom in a full diplo game.

Charriu did accept peace. One humorous result of this.
This is now the city with the best infrastructure in my entire empire. I got a Pavilion here which is my UB, which is noteworthy because I do not have Drama.
Well that's a bummer. Obviously it would have worked if I could have gotten both cities in peace, but it hadn't occurred to me that this would happen with just one city.

Why would you build a theatre?
If you don't grant OB, then that works right?

The theatre is a genius stroke, because it lets Kirkhope pop borders on its first turn with scooter, and then Charriu's units will get teleported. Must all be part of the plan.
To note, that theatre is >1000 years old.
