If Judaism lands in Shiv to get the marble soon, does that make for any Oracle plans?

The idea was to eventually get metal casting and bulb machinery if Oracle is still available, but it’s not an urgent priority compared to other things like expanding and fighting off a Cataphract invasion. Scooter seems confident we can get to WEs in time though so maybe after that? Or maybe we Oracle MC to get a chance to build a couple forges before WEs come online? We’re probably shorter on hammers than on beakers overall. I don’t know that latter would pay off quickly enough in the short term. Yes, a CRE leader (without any revolts) would pop third-ring borders at T25 (when others do it at T50), which will be scored on T45. I could tech straight into Metal Casting next and try to Oracle Machinery and get Berserkers online, or I could tech straight to Construction for Elephants. The advantage of the Machinery play is obvious - Zerks off 3-4 move Galleys is straight-up unfair. While Phracts still trade favorably into them, I could put a few on Galleys escorted by Triremes and Yuris would be forced to defend against them and would limit his ability to come at me. Getting those mega early would be super cool. Yellow dot has a bunch of forests and could easily chop it. 2 pre-Maths chops + 30h overflow + marble would just about 1T it. Add in OR and it does with room to spare. On the flip side, there’s no guarantee Oracle would still be there by the time I finished Metal Casting. Construction is a much more guaranteed thing - complete the tech and I can build them immediately. The other benefit is it puts me on the path for a bunch of things that also make sense for me. Currency for one with my trade route heavy approach is a big one. I want Calendar, so it opens up Marble-boosted MoM for me. Great Library and Music Artist is also up there. It makes sense to use my early tech ability to snowball some of the top-of-tree prizes. So, I think I’m leaning towards skipping Oracle, or at least not going for a Machinery play which is the biggest reason for me to Oracle. I’m otherwise underwhelmed by other Oracle targets. That said, it isn’t incompatible with a top of the tree approach. I could Oracle Currency or Construction or something, which might make sense given how inexpensive the wonder is with Marble and how valuable those two techs are for me in a GLH/Phract world. I don’t know that we know of any 2-seafood islands yet, though. This is my next puzzle as I’m legitimately really torn. Islands require a Galley, Silks require a missionary, and fishing village requires WBs. The island commerce ROI would be really good at that point as post-GLH it would get 6c instantly plus 1c in the 5 other cities for 11c total, and those numbers would instantly go up the turn I finish Currency. Basically all islands would be a net positive instantly for quite awhile, but the first 4 are insanely positive.
I think I like the Oracle Currency idea TBH better than Oracle Machinery. We don’t get as many up front beakers, but we get the advantage of getting Currency a couple tech picks (Construction + HBR needed for WEs) before we might otherwise we able to grab it, and that will accelerate our push to building WEs sooner as well as speeding up any eventual push toward Calendar and MC + Machinery. The opportunity cost is a lot lower, but it still seems to get much of the benefit from a raw beakers over time standpoint, and is the most flexible from the point of view of ordering future tech objectives. The prophet points could also be worthwhile at some point for a shrine or a GA.
Regarding next city…. I’m thinking not silk city for city 6. It can probably wait a bit. It’s a slow grower and requires worker support since it doesn’t make much use of water tiles. Both an island or Tom would contribute a lot faster, and we want to prioritize our timeline to WEs. An island would be better for researching them, but Tom might be better for actually building them since it has more food to regrow after whipping and doesn’t need boats to move troops to the front. To me that suggests island, then Tom while galley explores locally, then we see what makes sense. The more I think about it, Oracling Machinery is way too much of a rigid sticking to pre-game ideas rather than responding to the situation in front of me. And the situation in front of me is I want Elephants for Phracts and trade routes for GLH/islands. There’s also a viable way to get Machinery later - GLH Merchant Trade Mission - assuming I can find somewhere to get one without issue.
It appears I spoke too soon as he promptly logged back in and played again . I only called it out as he's last to play nearly every time, and he always plays a double turn so it's easy to watch for.
Quote:Time Turn Player Event He did triple whip upon logging back in, so that could be a Musketeer, but it also could be a settler. He did place his 3rd city a couple turns ago. |
