I guess we can hope that’s pointed at Oxy but I’m guessing he’s on 5 cities now right? It’s hard to see how 2 Musketeers would be more than a major inconvenience to someone with a significant number of build queues. I guess I don’t know the geography and that could make a big difference to whether the attack makes sense from an operational perspective, even if I think it could be premature from a strategic perspective.
Depends on how surprised the target is and what the land nearby looks like and how much is claimable, I guess. If he's able to capture or hold, it makes a lot of sense. If 2 Musketeers showed up at our doorstep next turn, things would get dicey super fast. I'm far from Horse Archers, and Axes are at a huge strength and mobility disadvantage, and I can't actually build them for a couple more turns. I dunno, I think Musketeers are the one unit worth rushing with, but so much depends on context. Like, if he started where we start, I think he could easily have overrun Yuris with a few of them and secured this whole continent for himself.
Also worth considering if he’s next to Luddite, it makes sense to gank him before he gets any Artillery built. If he’s next to Oxy, well, you have that amazing capital to capture, and the Musketeers get less OP with time as he gets more production online. I sort of get it, but it really depends on the shape of the big continent and how they’re dispersed.

I suppose if they started close enough together that capturing and holding doesn’t just result in crippling distance maintenance then it could work. You’re right that Cairo could feel like he is forced into this play by neighbor luck even though it might not ordinarily be considered optimal when compared against the rest of the field. We definitely don’t have enough info to really judge for sure.
Obviously this is good for us if it’s aimed at Oxy and bad for us (in that Oxy is presumably safe) if aimed at Luddite.

Forgot to remark on this. That horse is in a decent but not amazing spot for Yuris, and his 3rd city was placed east of this. It's one of those things where I sort of wonder if it's deniable.
How much of the jungle belt are you hoping to claim?

By when? Ultimately, all of it, since we’re on a duel island and need to defeat Yuris eventually. In the short term… none? I’m not sure when Iron Working can be slotted in since our tech goals are in the top part of the tree and we have islands for expansion after cities 6-7. I don’t think we have any plans for jungle cities until after Yuris does whatever he’s going to do with Cataphracts.

Based on Tarkeel's post, I think it's very obvious that war is imminent. Not that we needed the warning, because Detective Scooter Holmes over here already figured it out.
If Cairo didn't name his Musketeers D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis in some order, we riot.

Hm. Luddite whipped twice in response to whatever’s happening over thereabouts and Oxy did not. Possibly that’s an unfavorable sign…

This game is getting spicy I guess. First off, I met Luddite.
Thing is, I'm pretty sure he is Cairo's target given that Luddite spent like an hour plus in-game yesterday and today across several logins. The reason is he might be toast.
No copper or horse hooked. I have no idea how you handle Musketeers like this. He did plant a 5th city in the midst of all this, beating us to 5. But it's not clear he can defend against Musketeers. But when I said spicy, I didn't mean just him.
Yuris appears uninterested in waiting for Cataphracts. I suspected he built an axe several turns ago, but he definitely added one a turn or two ago. Crucially, I don't think this is the just-built one, so there's probably one more. Counting tiles, I think it's coming 1 tile behind, so it seems like the first wave is 2 axes and a harassing warrior.
I'm pretty sure I have this covered thanks to plenty of warning, culture, and workers. I'm hooking copper now, and it will be online several turns before the axe arrives, and depending on his choices, I might be able to hook horse right around then too. So I think this is just going to stall things, which of course is probably his plan. I wonder if seeing me land GLH has set him on the aggressive plan. Anyway, in case I'm misreading things.
I decided to make sure. I declared war and offered him 10T peace. Will see what he does.
Warriors auto-upgrade to Spears, not Axes, right?

Warriors auto upgrade to spears if you have hunting. Otherwise, axes.

I see culture on the marble tile, so I guess Judaism was founded in Shiv as expected and we’ve revolted to Hinduism and Organized Religion.
Locking in 10T of peace would definitely be good, if we can do so. If we can’t, and need to build a couple axes of our own, what are the most likely priorities we have now that have to wait a bit? A missionary for silk city? Setting silk city to begin with?

I thought unit build orders auto-upgrade when you have *all* of the upgrade paths, so warriors are buildable and don't auto-upgrade until you have *both* Hunting and Bronze? Is that right or am I way rusty?
