  • Cylindrical or Toroidial? Cylindrical. Fucking please, almost a dealbreaker for me.
  • Any climactic, island, sea level or continental preference? Two or more continents with no contact before Optics? It's been a while since we played a setup like that. I would also love to have land that can only be colonized with Galleons but probably too much to ask.
  • Tribal villages? Yes
  • Map trading? Yes
  • World resource modifier? Yes
  • Inflation tied to tech? No opinion.
  • Quests for everybody? Double events? No.
  • Barbs: on, cities, water units, deterministic combat? On, with cities, non-deterministic, no galleys.
  • Spies? City count tied to espionage?  No EP missions
  • Unit gifting? No
  • Choose religions? No.
  • Should I manually reduce the listed map size from Huge to Large? No

I just noticed while filling in my votes that someone called 'connorbot' has tried to sign up via spreadsheet?

  • Any climactic, island, sea level or continental preference? Happy to lead this without guidance.
  • Tribal villages? Yes
  • Map trading? Yes.
  • World resource modifier? Yes
  • Inflation tied to tech? NO! I'm pretty sure this was a balancing option that was decided to be terrible. Correct me if I'm wrong??
  • Quests for everybody? Double events? Hell yah.
  • Barbs: on, cities, water units, deterministic combat? On, but no water units.
  • Spies? City count tied to espionage?  No EP missions
  • Unit gifting? No.
  • Should I manually reduce the listed map size from Huge to Large? Yes (this affects tech costs and maintenance, yes? Anything else?)

And finally...anything you want me to reject a map for, besides luxuries? E.g. start distance, alone on an island, jungle choked, trapped in a dual, etc.? Eyeball for viability would be good - ranting at the mapmaker is half the fun. wink

I wasn't sure if I was meant to fill this out, but here it is if wanted. It would be worth looking at inflation tied to tech setting.

  • Barbs: on, cities, water units, deterministic combat?: On, bu no ships, and possibly no cities?
  • Spies? City count tied to espionage? Off/NO
  • Unit gifting? OFF
  • Should I manually reduce the listed map size from Huge to Large? Probably?

Make sure that every start is playable. Alone is fine, drowning in jungle or desert isn't. 11+ tiles is good, so everyone gets at least one ring of cities.

Perhaps edit them into the spreadsheet as there's been a few differences and I'd rather not tally myself.

I will tell you all of the map settings I choose, and the degree of edits. I won't tell you the results, e.g. how many continents etc.

Q, do you have any experience using Novice's tool for balance checking? It's not perfect, but does a pretty good job.

I have added a row and moved the "Final" row. Wondering if this was correct.

CONNORBOT, seeing as you voted in the spreadsheet but have no account (under that name) in the forum, we need you to post a signup here, otherwise the signup can't be considered. If you have trouble registering to the forum or posting you can get help via the RB discord channel

I've used novice's tool in the past. But I'm not planning to try for balance here - I'm looking to roll, make sure it looks interesting and not too terrible/unfun for anyone.
