Opponent analysis to come in time. That's really half the fun of playing in these games anyway.

[PB74] Amicalola and Wills are Gluttons for Punishment

I was thinking about what I want from this game, and why I signed up. I want to mostly just exist in the Big Game PitBoss ecosystem, and admire the chaos from within. I have no aspirations to win, nor any desire to, to be honest - managing the massive empires just isn't fun. I will be happy die by the lategame, and hopefully leave some sort of mark on the game before then. My partner will also be playing this game with me, although whether they make any posts on the forum is still an open question. It will be nice to share a hobby that has historically always been 'purely online' for me.
As far as my reporting, I haven't decided between one big post every week, or a few little ones. In style, I'm going to try and replicate Jowy's style from his return to RB, because his reports from that era have always been my favourite from this forum. They struck a balance between information and brevity that no one has really achieved since, imo - in particular I have never enjoyed the 'information overload' reports (as I term them) that many others seem to love. I enjoy lurking games for the stories they generate, not the numbers. Hopefully this experiment in casual PitBoss proves a rewarding re-entry into the format. Quote:Gavagai is Huayana Capac OR Hannibal OR Victoria of Maya How did Commodore end up with arguably the best combo?

Why did I take Peter? Well, I wanted to play Arabia, and annoyingly I think Gandhi is stronger with Arabia, as I will almost certainly be founding a religion and making use of religious civics in this game. However, I will not have the time to optimise spiritual properly, meanwhile Joao is boring.
With Peter, I can try to get Great Prophet and Monk shenanigans going, without sacrificing too much of my growth curve. In theory, at least... I am a little sad that I wasn't offered any of AGG, CHA, or CRE, which are the three traits I really wanted to play with. However, playing a PHI Arabia game is too rare an opportunity to pass up. I'm sure it will be really fun until someone who actually built units and cities comes along to ruin everything.
Hey, is it too late to reject my picks? I would like to do so (leaders and civ) if possible!!!
I tried a run with Arabia and with this start (no unforested hills) the techs are CRIPPLING. And then all my leaders suck if I don't want Arabia, so REROLL!
Roger roger, rerolling all.

Thanks Q. I'll definitely take Ragnar.
Ottomans is tricky. It's just on the borderline of playable with this start (really we need Mining or Fishing - to be super competitive, we'd probably need both) and about half the remaining civs have one of those, and half don't. So it's basically a 50/50 roll to knock ourselves out of the game T0, or get something with a shot at actually winning. Hmmmmmm. I just want to play some civ, so I guess we'll take Ottomans and avoid crippling ourselves immediately. Maybe we'll get to do something with Aggressive Janissaries. Also, Wills will be dedlurking me this game! Not that they have actually used the forum since the last game I played. Lock in Ragnar of the Ottomans! |
