Ah, the things we do for Civ… hope you’re having a great time in Norway!

Wait, are you both living in Norway? That's an odd coincidence.

I took it that Oxy was just visiting, but I know a few other users here are from Norway.

And I'm Norwegian by ancestry, my grandparents emigrated to the US from there.

I am too, though in my case it was great-grandparents who I unfortunately never got to meet. My last name is relatively rare (I've never heard of anyone with it that was not related to me), but there is a tiny rural town in northern Norway with the same name, which I have always assumed is not a coincidence.

A lot of last names were based on where you were from. I've always assumed the same about a suburb of Sheffield (although I'm mainly German, but the male 1/4 runs from Engand. Although unlike Scooter there are quite a few with my last name that aren't related / a deviant spelling I suspect stemming from people who couldn't read or write giving their names to immigration officials who were unaware of the English vowel shift.

Yeah, last names, at least here in the US, tended to be where you were from or in some cases what your occupation was.

As for the last point about spelling errors, on the other side of my family, a family member did a bunch of family tree work years back. They traced everyone back to the actual boat that they immigrated on to the US from Italy. However, they hit a dead end and couldn't find anyone in Italy with the same last name. After somehow tracking down a ticket of some sort from the actual boat the family member came over on, they discovered that the family last name was a misspelling. There was a trailing -o on the head of family's first name, and at immigration time it accidentally got moved from the end of his first name to the start of his last name. Given that he probably didn't speak much/any English, it seems the reaction was "welp, guess this is our last name now."

Yeah I'm just here for vacation. I live in the metropole (California) but it's always nice to visit the imperial provinces once in a while to throw some denari around :P

Anyways here are some photos:

Flew into Oslo which is a really lovely city with great architecture throughout. Here's some important building that I forgot the name of:

Along the walls there were a bunch of murals of Scandanavian folklore

This was my favorite painting I saw in the National Gallery there, Arbo's Valkyrie by Peter Nicolai:

After that we drove east to Halden and stayed at a cabin on a lake, here's the view from the porch:

And here's a red squirrel, didn't know they came in this color:

Today we crossed the border the Swedish border into Örebro. Here's a pic I snapped during sunset tonight:
