[Spoilers] luddite tries to remember how this game works

How about the plains hill between horse and cow. It would have good production and extra defence from being on a hill. If you build a road between it and Rodman. Any units heading deeper into you lines will have to pass within attack rane of one of your cities. You can stage units on that tile and the hill ENE of Rodman and cover everything.

Yeah that's where I would *like* to settle (or 1N of the cow), but I don't know if I can get away with it. The problem is, as I see it, I can't afford to split my stack. If he sends in all of his musketeers, I really need to hit it with everything I have or it's not going to make a dent. Even as it is, with 2 AT and 3-4 axes vs 5 musketeers, the odds aren't great for me, and he can replace the losses easier than I can.

But... maybe it could work. Let's say I get a monument in Rodman and expand borders. And let's say I also manage to settle that city while verifying he's not hiding in the NE where I can't see. I could see him coming. If he moves everything towards Rodman I move everything out to the desert. (or everything except like 1 archer 1 warrior). If he splits his stack then I can, too.

One downside though, is that I'd be moving much closer to him. Takes longer for me to get reinforcements, shorter for him. And with all my units on a hill near the border, it's easy for him to see exactly what I've got.

Another question... dare I go for a granary in the capital? I really want an artillery ASAP but that city is also crying out for a granary. So many tough decisions here... seems like every single turn gives me a tough choice.

Decided not to build a granary (yet) in the capital. The artillery just feels too important to delay. I'll build one in my 2 southern cities instead.

Also, Scooter offered me 3gpt for nothing. Um... thanks? I'm not quite sure what that means. Thanks dude! It's actually a significant boost to my otherwise pathetic economy. I was only making 18 gpt before...

That probably means there were something else attached to the request that is no longer available. Did you lose any resources or something else he was trying to buy for 3gpt?

Hmm... I don't think so? I have so few resources, I think I would have noticed. Maybe he also offered a resource trade but lost his resource? Kind of weird that the gpt part of the trade is still offered.

Also... is it weird that I'm starting to feel a ray of hope here...?
(at least in regard to beating Mr Cairo... Scooter and Oxy are way too far ahead)
-I have more cities than him
-I can build new cities faster, thanks to IMP
-I'm not too far behind in demos, and my cities can quickly grow from here
-I've built a lot of roads and cleared out most forests, so there's a lot less room for him to play hide-and-seek with his musketeers (other than that one annoying forest hill in the NE)
-My army just *scales* better than his. In a straight up fight, artillery + AT will almost always beat musketeers as long as the army cost is close to equal

Ah I guess that was a misclick or something from Scooter. I just saw his message in the tech thread. I'll just give it back to him, it's not a big deal.

Semi-related... I kind of wish this game had been a full diplo game. I feel like then I could have arranged some sort of interesting deal with either Cairo or Scooter.

Another thought... even thought I'd like the money, I still feel like money doesn't much matter to me in this game. It's always hammers that I'm critically lacking. I would have been better off with an AGG leader, maybe Genghis Khan (Agg/Imp), since those extra promos can really shift the odds sometimes. Mr. Cairo probably would have been better that way too.

The only catch is, it's a huge obvious signal when you pick AGG that everyone expects you to rush...
